Hyundai sedans awarded five stars for most satisfied customers

Hyundai has a philosophy: ‘New thinking, new possibilities’.

Apparently this mantra is working, with the Korean car manufacturer taking out two of our motoring awards this year.

Hyundai have won our most satisfied customers for sedans award – achieving victory in the sedan category amongst some of the biggest names in motoring.

Other brands rated were Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Holden, Honda and Ford.

Hyundai has also won our value for money award for cars for 2011.

Our survey also shows an alarming statistic – more than one in five drivers put off important car maintenance in an effort to save money.

And younger Aussies are the worst offenders.

The contrast between Generation Y drivers and Baby Boomer drivers is startling:

  • Thirty eight percent of Gen Y drivers let their car go past the ‘service-by’ date, compared to only 12% of Baby Boomers
  • Sixteen percent of Gen Y drivers are driving their cars unregistered compared to only 2% of Baby Boomers
  • Thirty percent of Gen Y drivers would rather invest in a sound system for their car rather than safety features, compared to 4% of Baby Boomer drivers

The fine for driving an unregistered vehicle can amount to hundreds of dollars in fines and can void car insurance if the vehicle is not properly registered.

Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 7,500 Australian consumers over a number of months to measure their satisfaction across a range of products and services. The outcomes reported are the results from car purchasers within the survey group. To qualify, the customer has to have bought a new car from a dealership in the last three years.

Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Hyundai received five stars for overall customer satisfaction for sedans. Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Holden and Honda all scored admirably with four stars each, and Ford received three stars.

Value for money

Hyundai once again trumped their competition with five stars for value for money for sedans, while Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota and Holden received four stars. Both Honda and Ford received three stars for their brand’s value for money.

After sale service

A car can quickly lose its value if it is not maintained, and the quality of the servicing can make all the difference on the road. Both Hyundai and Mazda excelled in this category with a five star rating for after sale service. Japanese manufacturers Mitsubishi and Toyota both received four stars for service, while Holden, Honda and Ford received three stars.

Reliability and performance

A reliable car is easy to maintain and can be counted on for performance. Mazda customers are most satisfied with their vehicle’s reliability and performance, with the manufacturer receiving five stars. Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Holden and Honda received four stars, while Ford received three.
