More than a third of Australians can only manage bare necessities for their fridge
While many of the respondents to our recent survey once enjoyed filling up their fridge with delicious treats, more than one in three told us they could now afford only the absolute essentials for their household.
Furthermore, almost half of Generation Y respondents and a third of Baby Boomers were now reportedly only stocking up on the basics.
While filling the refrigerator proved costly for some, more than a third of respondents (37%) said the purchase of the refrigerator itself was less costly than expected. This was especially true of men, 44% of whom found new fridges to be surprisingly cheap, compared to 31% of women.
After comparing brands across the refrigerator category, Kelvinator was awarded Canstar Blue’s most satisfied customers award for Refrigerators – for the second year in a row. The brand was awarded a five star rating for all six criteria considered.
Kelvinator stacked up well against Westinghouse, Fisher & Paykel, LG, Samsung, Electrolux and Whirlpool, which we rated based on the responses of our survey respondents.
In other results:
- Westinghouse received five star ratings for internal layout and the quality of the refrigerator’s fixtures and fittings.
- Fisher & Paykel was awarded five star ratings for food freshness and its fixture and fittings quality.
- LG accrued separate five star ratings for value for money, food freshness and the internal layout of its fridges.
While the cost of a refrigerator surprised a third of respondents, a similar proportion said they begrudged spending money on boring household items with men more highly represented (35%) than women (23%).
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from refrigerator customers within the survey group – in this case, 749 people. To qualify, the customer must have bought a new refrigerator in the last 3 years.
Brands must receive at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
