Lightning strikes twice: AGL wins NSW electricity providers award two years running

Most Satisfied Customers 2012: NSW Electricity ProvidersAGL has secured our 2012 most satisfied customers award for electricity providers in New South Wales, according to the results of our recent survey.

It is the latest in a series of wins for AGL – the company claiming the top spot for New South Wales last year, and also in Queensland this year.

Alongside this award-win, our results show AGL achieved five star ratings in several criteria:

  • Uninterrupted supply of energy to customers,
  • Availability of payment plan options,
  • Customer service,
  • Billing,
  • Information and advice relating to using electricity efficiently,
  • Overall customer satisfaction.

Other brands rated in this survey were Integral Energy, Origin, EnergyAustralia and Country Energy.

AGL’s five star customer satisfaction will come as good news to New South Wales residents on the hunt for an electricity provider. Meanwhile, our results show there is one renewable energy option that continues to spark debate: nuclear power.

A little more than half of the respondents to this survey said they would consider purchasing electricity from a nuclear energy provider. On the flip side, two in five said they did not want to see nuclear power introduced into Australia – despite believing it was an acceptable overseas.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers of New South Wales electricity providers within the survey group – in this case, 685 people. To qualify, the customer must have an electricity account and pay the bills.

Brands must receive at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall customer satisfaction

AGL had the most satisfied customers overall receiving a five star rating for electricity providers in New South Wales. Integral Energy and Origin were next with four stars each, and EnergyAustralia and Country Energy rounded out the pack with three.

Value for money

AGL, Integral Energy, Origin and Country Energy all received two stars for their value for money; EnergyAustralia received one.

Uninterrupted supply

AGL received another five star rating for the uninterrupted supply of its electrical service. Integral Energy, Origin and EnergyAustralia received four stars, and Country Energy three.

Availability of payment plan options

AGL received a five star rating when it came to the availability of customer payment plan options. Integral Energy was awarded four stars for this criterion; Origin, EnergyAustralia and Country Energy all received three.

Service (e.g. email, telephone service)

AGL customers were most satisfied with their electricity provider’s service, so the supplier was awarded five stars. Integral Energy and Origin each received four stars for service, EnergyAustralia were next with three, and Country Energy followed with two.

Billing (e.g. billing clarity, accuracy)

Paying your bills can sometimes be a chore, but a streamlined billing process can make things much less laborious. AGL customers were the most satisfied when it came to their electricity providers’ billing facilities, clarity and accuracy, scoring AGL a five star rating. Integral Energy, Origin and Country Energy were each awarded four stars, and EnergyAustralia received three.

Information/advice about using electricity efficiently to save money

AGL were awarded their sixth and final five star rating for providing their customers with information and advice about using electricity efficiently. Integral Energy received four stars, EnergyAustralia and Country Energy received three, and Origin two.
