AGL rises through ranks to claim five star natural gas victory in New South Wales

Most Satisfied Customers: NSW Natural Gas Suppliers 2012A majority of natural gas customers believe more Australians should switch to this form of energy, according to our recent survey results.

And this wasn’t a slim majority either; with 71% of natural gas customers in favour, particularly amongst Baby Boomer respondents (76%). Many customers (67%) also believed that gas was a more reliable power source than electricity.

We also found that three quarters of respondents went the extra mile and researched natural gas suppliers in an effort to find the best utilities deal for themselves.

The survey also looked at customer satisfaction, and found that respondents from New South Wales were most satisfied overall with AGL as their natural gas supplier. AGL received our most satisfied customers award ahead of other gas suppliers Energy Australia and Origin.

Our survey also looked at customer satisfaction with natural gas suppliers in Victoria and South Australia.

Five star ratings littered this set of results:

  • AGL achieved five stars for overall satisfaction, its uninterrupted supply of gas, availability of payment plan options, billing and service.
  • Energy Australia received five stars for availability of payment plan options, billing and service.
  • Origin earned a five star rating for its availability of payment plan options.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers of natural gas suppliers within the survey group – in this case, 2274 people (670 in NSW). To qualify, the customer must have an active gas account and regularly pay the bills. Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included.

Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall customer satisfaction

AGL was our five star recipient for overall customer satisfaction. They were out in front of Energy Australia with its four star rating, as well as Origin with three.

Value for money

Both AGL and Energy Australia received four star ratings for value for money, while Origin followed with three.

Uninterrupted supply of natural gas

Five stars went to AGL for customer satisfaction with its supply of natural gas. Both Energy Australia and Origin received four stars for this criterion.

Availability of payment plan options

Every one of our rated brands – AGL, Origin and Energy Australia – received a five star rating for their availability of payment plan options for customers.

Environmental sustainability

Perhaps demonstrating that energy companies were being especially pro-active in taking ‘green’ measures; AGL, Origin and Energy Australia all achieved a four star rating for environmental sustainability.

Billing (e.g. billing clarity, accuracy)

Customers of AGL and Energy Australia were tied when it came to the most satisfied customers with the billing options available. Origin was next in line with a four star rating.

Service (e.g. email, telephone service)

It’s best for everyone if the lines of communication between customers and utilities suppliers are open and easily accessible. AGL and Energy Australia both garnered five star ratings for customer service, while Origin followed closely behind with four.
