One in four drivers has considered downsizing cars due to cost of living

Most Satisfied Customers - Cars 2012“Size does matter,” say 45% of respondents to our recent survey who purchased a new car in the last three years and are now considering downsizing to a more efficient model due to the rising costs of living.

In particular, Generation Y drivers were most likely to have thought of replacing their current vehicle with a more efficient model at 53%; while only 38% of Baby Boomers felt the same.

Buying a car is a big investment and as a result consumers consider a range of factors prior to purchase for example the cost of scheduled car servicing and the variety of brands available.

At Canstar Blue we’ve taken some of the hard work out of comparing cars, rating 11 car brands to find the one with the most satisfied customers.

For 2012, it was Hyundai which took out top honours for the most satisfied car customers. Along with a five star rating for overall customer satisfaction, Hyundai also received awards for value for money, after sales service and reliability.

Also rated in these results were four star recipients Mazda, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda, Ford and Holden; and three star recipient Kia.

Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 7,500 Australian consumers over a number of months to measure their satisfaction across a range of products and services. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group – in this case, 1,722 people – who had bought a new car from a dealership in the last 3 years.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
