For anyone on the hunt for better camping gear and supplies, compare outdoor equipment stores with our customer satisfaction ratings.
* Overall satisfaction is an individual rating and not a combined total of all ratings. Brands with equal overall satisfaction ratings are listed in alphabetical order.
Canstar Blue research finalised in May 2013, published in July 2013.
Australia is the #1 travel destination…for one in three Australians
Nearly one in three respondents to our recent survey of camping store customers think overseas travel is overrated, and everything they need is right here in Australia.
Furthermore, more than half would rather explore their own country first before travelling overseas, and nearly two thirds holiday domestically as a way to support the Australian economy. While support for the domestic tourism industry was particularly strong for older Australians, Generation Y respondents were less likely to feel the same.
A majority of respondents agreed the great outdoors is a great antidote for the hustle and bustle of modern life (86%), with some taking the opportunity to get away from it all by camping more than twice a year (34%).
A small number of respondents (15%) feel their outdoor skills are strong enough to give renowned adventurer Bear Grills “a run for his money” and – perhaps unsurprisingly – twice the number of men than women think they are up to this task (20% versus 10%).
Camping gear retailer Aussie Disposals achieve first year award-win
Despite a clear appreciation of outdoor adventuring, less than half of our respondents feel they have all the camping gear they need. We have rated customer satisfaction with camping and outdoor equipment stores to help those missing anything essential. Aussie Disposals has been awarded our Most Satisfied Customers Award in this category for 2013 when rated alongside Anaconda, Kathmandu, Rays Outdoors and BCF.
In other top results:
- Aussie Disposals were five star recipients for overall customer satisfaction, service and advice, value for money, and store specials.
- Anaconda achieved five stars for its range of products, range of brands, available specials, and printed and online catalogue.
- Both BCF and Rays Outdoors received five stars for their range of products and brands.
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased an item from a camping or outdoor equipment store in the last 12 months – in this case, 947 people.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
