One in five think it’s trendy to be sporty…minus the exercise

Most Satisfied Customers - Sports Footwear RetailersAre the best sports shoes only for those who were ‘born to run’? One in five respondents to our survey of sports footwear retailers disagreed; stating they wore top-of-the-range sports shoes casually, but never exercised.

Furthermore, even more respondents (43%) only wore running shoes that looked good. This wasn’t the case across the board, however:

  • A little under half of survey respondents only cared that their sports shoes were comfortable; and
  • Four in five got more out of exercise when they wore properly fitted sports shoes.

Half of these sports shoe customers also found that putting their best foot forward was particularly affordable nowadays; stating the cost of decent quality sports shoes had come down in recent years. Even more respondents (close to two thirds) declared they always bought sports shoes from a specialty sports footwear retailer.

We’ve taken a look at customer satisfaction with sports shoe retailers to help shoppers with their next purchase. For those searching for a top-rated store, look no further than Amart Sports – who took the greatest share of five star ratings in these results, as well as our most satisfied customers award.

Athlete’s Foot, Paul’s Warehouse, Rebel Sport and Foot Locker were also rated.

Looking at our results:

  • Amart Sports achieved five stars for overall satisfaction, range of shoes and brands, and range of accessories,
  • Athlete’s Foot deserved praise for its five star rating in customer service.
  • Paul’s Warehouse achieved a five star rating for value for money, and,
  • Rebel Sport received five stars for its range of accessories.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers of sports footwear retailers within the survey group – in this case, 835 people. To qualify, the customer must have purchased sports footwear from an Australian retailer in the last 12 months (online or shopfront).

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
