That’s the spirit: One in three drink alcohol most days

Most Satisfied Customers - Online Liquor Stores, 2013One in three respondents to our recent online liquor store survey reported they are drinking most days of the week. It’s possible this could be linked to proximity to liquor, with 29% of respondents reporting they drink more if they have convenient access to alcohol.

This habit may come at a cost, however. A quarter of customers felt they spent too much money on alcohol, while an even greater number (27%) spend more on alcohol now than they did a year ago.

At least a significant number of respondents (one in three) were approaching their alcohol expenditure sensibly by including alcohol as an item on their weekly budget; assigning it a dollar value spend.

To help you determine which online liquor retailer to try, our survey also looked at customer satisfaction with several prominent stores. DealsDirect.com.au achieved the 2013 Most Satisfied Customers Award for Online Liquor Stores, and received five star ratings for:

  • Overall customer satisfaction,
  • Value for money,
  • Price compared to other online retailers,
  • Price compared to bricks and mortar retailers,
  • Ease of site navigation, and
  • Speed of delivery.

Other five star recipients included GraysOnline for value for money, price compared to other online retailers and price compared to bricks and mortar retailers; and Dan Murphy’s for the quality of its alcohol and range of liquor available.

Liquorland, Cellarmasters and 1stChoice were also rated in this survey.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased alcohol online (i.e. not from a physical / bricks and mortar liquor store) in the last six months – in this case, 496 people.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall customer satisfaction

Congratulations to DealsDirect.com.au for its five star rating for overall customer satisfaction. They were followed by GraysOnline, Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland and Cellarmasters with four stars each, then by 1stChoice with three.

Value for money

Two brands achieved five star-greatness for value for money: DealsDirect.com.au and GraysOnline. Next were four star recipients Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland and Cellarmasters, then three star achiever 1stChoice.

Price compared to other online retailers

Customers of DealsDirect.com.au and GraysOnline were most satisfied with the prices available to them compared to those listed on other websites. Following the five star achievers were Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland and Cellarmasters with four stars each, then 1stChoice with three.

Price compared to brick and mortar retailers

Can you get a better price online, or are you better off walking down the road to the shops? That’s the question facing online shoppers, and customers of both DealsDirect.com.au and GraysOnline were most satisfied their online retailer was offering competitive prices compared to brick and mortar stores. Dan Murphy’s, Cellarmasters and Liquorland followed with four star ratings, and 1stChoice finished with three.

Quality of alcohol

Dan Murphy’s customers were most satisfied with the quality of the alcohol they bought from their online liquor retailer. They received five stars, DealsDirect.com.au and Cellarmasters received four, and GraysOnline, Liquorland and 1stChoice received three.

Range of alcohol available

Many have a preferred bottle of red wine or scotch, but does your online liquor retailer stock your favourites? Dan Murphy’s customers were most satisfied their outlet stocked a suitable range of liquor, with the well-known Australian brand receiving a five star rating in this area. GraysOnline, Liquorland and Cellarmasters received four stars for their available range of alcohol, and DealsDirect.com.au and 1stChoice received three.

Ease of site navigation

DealsDirect.com.au shoppers were most satisfied with the ease of which the website could be navigated, the brand receiving a five star rating; followed by four star recipient GraysOnline. Following these two online-only businesses were our three star-rated brands: Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland, Cellarmasters and 1stChoice.

Speed of delivery

If you’ve ordered something special, you don’t want to wait too long to receive it and put it to the test. Receiving five stars for the speed of its delivery service was DealsDirect.com.au. GraysOnline, Liquorland, Cellarmasters and Dan Murphy’s received four stars each; 1stChoice received three.
