Miele dishes out a five star win for dishwasher customer satisfaction
When it comes to shopping around for the best dishwasher in the Australian market, you need to do your homework. This is especially true given that respondents to this recent survey reportedly expect their dishwasher to last at least eight years!
On one shopping website alone, we found nearly sixty standard models to choose between. How is anyone supposed to figure out which dishwasher to buy?
Don’t worry, we can help. Each year, we ask Australians who have purchased a dishwasher in the last few years to review their purchase, to see how satisfied they are with their new appliance. This year, Miele earned our Most Satisfied Customers Award – Dishwashers, 2014 – excelling in five of the eight survey criteria.
While Miele may be the obvious standout, our other rated brands also proved themselves worthy of a spot on your shopping list:
- Dishlex received five stars for value for money, ease of use, and warranty /service.
- ASKO finished with five star ratings for performance, reliability, and ease of use.
- LG ticked the ‘five star box’ for value for money, and
- Electrolux secured five stars for dishwasher ease of use.
Fisher & Paykel, Westinghouse, Samsung, Bosch, and Whirlpool were also rated.
Overall customer satisfaction
Miele received five stars for overall dishwasher owner satisfaction, just ahead of a host of four star recipients: Electrolux, ASKO, Dishlex, LG, Fisher & Paykel, Westinghouse, Samsung, and Bosch. Whirlpool finished with three stars in this category for overall satisfaction.
Value for money
We added up the costs of all the standard dishwashers on Appliances Online to find the average price to purchase: $1,056, with models ranging from $425 to $2,499. It’s clear that you have plenty of choice between both high and lower end models. The real question is how much value can you get from your purchase?
Both Dishlex and LG received five stars in this area, edging out four star recipients Westinghouse, Electrolux, Samsung, ASKO, and Bosch. Whirlpool, Fisher & Paykel, and Miele all received three stars for their value for money offerings.
Performance (i.e. cleans well)
Have you ever had company over for dinner, and been greeted at the end of the evening with a figurative mountain of dishes? A good dishwasher will make quick work of this. Both Miele and ASKO received five stars for their dishwashers’ performance. Next with four star ratings were Dishlex, Electrolux, Fisher & Paykel, Bosch, and LG; and then three star achievers Westinghouse, Samsung, and Whirlpool.
The most commonly cited reason that dishwasher owners cited for replacing their machine was because it broke down. It’s easy to avoid this by investing in a model with a strong reputation for being reliable. ASKO and Miele customers were most satisfied with the reliability of their dishwashers. These two brands achieved five stars, and were followed by four star recipients Dishlex, Electrolux, Westinghouse, Fisher & Paykel, LG, and Bosch. Close behind with three stars apiece were both Whirlpool and Samsung.
Quietness while operating
We don’t know about you, but we like our house to be a place of peace. Therefore, it’s a great idea for you to look out for a dishwasher that operates discreetly. Miele earned five stars for the noise level of its machines. Electrolux, Bosch, Dishlex, Westinghouse, Samsung, LG, ASKO, and Fisher & Paykel all finished with four star ratings for their kitchen appliance’s running noise. Whirlpool followed with three stars for quietness.
Internal layout of drawers
Does the dishwasher comfortably fit your cutlery, crockery and whatever else inside whilst operating? Miele dishwasher owners were most satisfied with this aspect of their purchase, which is why this brand secured five stars. Next with four stars each were Electrolux, ASKO, Bosch, Samsung, LG, and Dishlex; followed closely by three star recipients Fisher & Paykel, Westinghouse, and Whirlpool.
Ease of use
You might get more value from your dishwasher by better utilising its’ features, but you can’t do this until you can easily access those features. Three brands achieved top ratings for dishwasher ease of use: ASKO, Electrolux, and Dishlex. Miele, LG, Bosch, and Fisher & Paykel all received four stars, and Westinghouse, Whirlpool, and Samsung all followed with three.
Warranty and service
Dishwashers are heavily relied upon in Australian households, so make sure the warranty and servicing facilities from your appliance manufacturer stack up to the competition. Miele achieved five stars in this area, and was followed by a wealth of four star recipients: LG, ASKO, Westinghouse, Electrolux, Fisher & Paykel, Dishlex, and Samsung. Finally, both Bosch and Whirlpool came close behind with three stars for warranty.
How we rated dishwashers
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and used a dishwasher in the last three years – in this case, 686 passengers.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
