Origin & AGL go head to head in QLD gas ratings
Wholesale natural gas prices in Queensland plummeted to 7 cents per gigajoule this October, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. However, some companies sold gas forward at a fixed price, so the low prices may not necessarily trickle down to consumers (barring the continuation of these low costs) or even last longer than a few months.
But what can we all do now to find a better price on gas? We understand that switching can be overwhelming. In fact, more than half the Queenslanders who responded to this survey find the process “daunting”. However, unless you’re moving and require a new connection, or breaking a fixed-term contract, you shouldn’t be charged anything. Check the terms and conditions of your current plan and get the process started on switching!
To help you begin, you can compare providers on our website – and we’ve just rated two of the biggest suppliers in the state.
We asked consumers to rate their level of satisfaction with their supplier, with Origin emerging as the victor of our latest award for 2014, just ahead of AGL. Origin picked up five star ratings in many areas, including:
- overall satisfaction,
- its uninterrupted supply,
- availability of payment plan options,
- focus on environmental sustainability,
- billing (e.g. clarity, accuracy), and
- customer service – be it over the telephone, email, etc.
The award-winning brand also received four stars for value for money.
AGL did well in many areas too. It secured four stars for overall satisfaction, uninterrupted supply of gas, focus on environmentally sustainable solutions, billing, and service. It finished with three stars for its payment plans, and two stars for value for money.
How we rated natural gas suppliers from Queensland
Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 2,695 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have an active gas account and regularly pay the bills – in this case, 223 Queenslanders.
Each brand must have received at least 30 responses in order to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey.
