Which New South Wales gas supplier gets the tick of approval?
Natural gas is big business. In fact, according to Business Spectator, consumption of this resource could increase by up to 170% in the next 35 years, as our reliance on other fossil fuels potentially falls out of fashion.
More than a quarter of New South Wales men and women who responded to our recent survey stated that their electricity bill is their most concerning expense – ahead of loan repayments (14%) and even health / medical payments (17%).
To put this in perspective, NSW respondents (on average) dedicate 21% of their income to paying their utilities bills.
Comparatively, only four percent of New South Welshmen and women cite natural gas bills as their most concerning cost. Using natural gas can be a cleaner alternative to electricity in terms of:
- heating your home
- heating your shower or bath water
- fuelling your oven/stovetop
- fuelling certain appliances (e.g. a gas powered clothes dryer)
How hard is it to switch?
The price you pay to connect your house to a gas line is set by the utilities company you choose to sign up with. Shop around for quotes before making a final decision.
If you’re switching from one supplier to another, remember you may need to pay fees if you prematurely end your contract – check the terms of your plan before proceeding.
Which supplier should you switch to?
Speaking of which, we can help you make this all important choice. We asked New South Wales survey respondents what they thought about their natural gas supplier. The results? In a comparison of three suppliers, AGL achieved our Most Satisfied Customers Award – Natural Gas Suppliers, NSW for 2014.
AGL wowed in these results with five stars for its uninterrupted supply of gas to homes, focus on environmental sustainability, billing, and customer service.
Next in line was Origin and Energy Australia: both neck and neck with four stars each for overall customer satisfaction. That said, Origin did distinguish itself with a five star rating for its focus on environmental friendliness.
Make sure you check out the full results in the table above.
How we rated natural gas suppliers from New South Wales
Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 2,695 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have an active gas account and regularly pay the bills – in this case, 756 New South Welshmen and women.
Each brand must have received at least 30 responses in order to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey.
