More than two in five of the respondents to our recent survey have considered downsizing their car to a more efficient model, due to (perceived) rises in cost of living.
It makes sense. If something is costing more than it needs to, why wouldn’t you swap it for something sleeker, and more compact? Hatchbacks really fit the bill in this regard. When driven in streets and cities, their smaller engines mean they will typically use much less fuel than a standard sedan, and their portability makes them a breeze to park.
However, the market is practically inundated with different models to choose between. How should you go about picking a winner? With our ratings of course! In our latest comparison, Ford has emerged with our Most Satisfied Customers Award – Hatchbacks, 2014. Also rated in these results were Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Holden.

How we rated new cars
Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 5,000 Australian drivers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have bought a brand new hatchback from a dealership in the last three years – in this case, 616 Australians.
Each brand must have received at least 30 responses in order to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey.
