BankSA was first established in Adelaide in 1848, where it became the main banking institution for South Australians.

It later became the South Australian subsidiary for St George Bank in 1992, until the two banks became part of the Westpac group in 2008.

BankSA has 55 branches in metropolitan Adelaide and 66 in rural South Australia.
