A recent overhaul of McDonald’s coffee brewing practises has yielded positive results for McCafé, as they have received our most satisfied customers award for coffee shops.
The café chain residing beneath the ‘golden arches’ has endeavoured to make better coffee for their customers by retraining baristas, purchasing finer quality coffee beans and standardising maintenance equipment.
The richer, darker blend has proven a popular choice for customers, as McCafé also received five stars for taste in our latest survey.
McCafé received our most satisfied customers award amidst a bevy of popular coffee chains, including Michel’s, Muffin Break, Dome, Gloria Jean’s, The Coffee Club, Starbucks and Hudsons.
With the average Aussie swilling 240 cups of coffee a year, it’s clear that Australia has a slight coffee addiction.
According to our survey, one in ten Aussies failed to successfully quit drinking coffee in the last twelve months.
Younger Australians are suffering the most, as 11% of Generation Y respondents experienced withdrawal symptoms worse than cigarette withdrawal.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers of coffee shops within the survey group. To qualify, the customer must have visited a coffee shop chain in the last six months.
Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
Overall
McCafé, launched only a decade ago by fast food giant McDonalds, received five stars for overall satisfaction while Dome, Michel’s, Muffin Break, Gloria Jean’s, The Coffee Club and Starbucks all received four stars. Hudsons received three stars for overall satisfaction.
Price
Once again, McCafé are ahead of the pack, with five stars for price. Michel’s and Muffin Break both received four stars for price, while Dome, Gloria Jean’s, The Coffee Club, Starbucks and Hudsons received three stars.
Service
Customers appreciate good service, and both Michel’s and McCafé received five stars for theirs. Muffin Break, Gloria Jean’s, Starbucks and The Coffee Club all received four stars for service while Dome and Hudsons both received three stars.
Menu options
Most coffee shops now offer a selection of food or snacks to compliment the caffeine hit, and customers of Dome are most satisfied with the menu options available to them. They received five stars for menu options, while McCafé, Michel’s, Muffin Break, Gloria Jean’s, The Coffee Club and Starbucks received four stars. Hudsons received three stars for this category.
Ambiance
A relaxing atmosphere coupled with a coffee is enough to make any customer content. Dome customers are most satisfied with the atmosphere of their coffee hangout. McCafé, Gloria Jean’s Starbucks and The Coffee Club all received four stars for the ambience in their stores, while Michel’s, Muffin Break and Hudsons received three stars.
Taste of coffee
A fine tasting coffee will see customers come back for more, and for this category Aussie coffee lovers are spoilt for choice. There are two brands that received five stars for taste: McCafé and Dome. Michel’s and Muffin Break were close behind on taste with four stars, while Gloria Jean’s, The Coffee Club, Starbucks and Hudsons received three stars.
