Apple and ASUS desktops top the field

Apple users have been revealed as the happiest when it comes to desktop computers. Our recent study has found that respondents who use Apple Macs are the most satisfied of all desktop users, comprehensively topping nearly every criteria.
While Apple has been awarded the overall title of Most Satisfied Customers – Desktop Computers, ASUS computers have received the award for Most Satisfied Customers – Desktop Computers (Windows based).
"Apple was the clear winner in the overall category, and received the highest scores," said Steve Mickenbecker, Head of Research at Canstar Blue. "However, the differences between Apple Mac and standard Windows based desktops have prompted us to award a secondary award for this category."
"The Windows operating system is more common and most people know how to use it. While Windows can be run on an Apple, it is not the standard operating system and requires additional set-up and possibly advanced-user knowledge."
ASUS has the most satisfied customers of the Windows based desktop computers.
While the operating system has influenced the categories awarded, it is also a major source of dissatisfaction for desktop users.
Many people have mentioned that they are unhappy with the operating system that is available on their computer, with many mentioning Vista and Windows 7. Other respondents cited dissatisfaction with the speed of their computer, and the exterior design.
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from buyers of desktop computers within the survey group. To qualify, the desktop has to have been bought within the last two years.
Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
Overall satisfaction
Apple was the clear winner in this criteria, ahead of ASUS on four stars, and Compaq, HP, Acer and Dell on three stars.
Price
ASUS, Compaq and Acer were equal leaders in this criteria, followed by Dell and HP on four stars, and Apple on three stars.
Reliability and performance
Apple customers continued their high praise for Apple, scoring them five stars in this category. ASUS followed on four stars, followed by HP, Acer, Dell and Compaq on three stars.
Tech support (after sale service)
Apple customers again demonstrated their high satisfaction, with this brand receiving five stars. ASUS, Dell and Acer scored four stars, while Compaq and HP received three stars.
Design, including appearance and size
Apple had the most satisfied customers in this criteria, ahead of ASUS, HP, Dell, Compaq and Acer on four stars.
Speed
Continuing the theme, Apple customers were the most satisfied with the speed of their desktop, followed by ASUS on four stars and Acer, Dell, HP and Compaq on three stars.
Screen
Apple customers were also the most satisfied with their screens, followed by HP, ASUS, Dell, Compaq and Acer on four stars.
