Canon tops printer survey and 1 in 2 Australians now choosing recycled paper

Our latest survey has revealed that world leading imaging organisation Canon has the most satisfied Australian printer customers, beating leading brands Samsung, HP, Epson and Lexmark.
Our first printer survey showed Canon was the clear winner in the eyes of its customers, coming out on top in the categories of overall satisfaction, performance and reliability, and features.
Canon tied with Brother for first place in the category of price, and Brother and Samsung won for the cost of ink and cartridges.
Ink cartridges were a major consideration for our respondents, with the cost of replacement, lifespan and difficulty with installation all impacting satisfaction with the printer. Paper jams, warm up and cleaning times and noise were also of concern.
The survey of ink jet and laser printers also revealed 1 in 2 Australians are making the eco-friendly decision to choose recycled paper when it comes to their printing needs.
The results showed Generation Y were the generation least likely to put the planet first when it comes to printing paper, with a mere 38% of Gen Y using recycled paper compared to 46% of Generation X and 51% of Baby Boomers.
Victorians were the residents most likely to use recycled paper (53%) compared to only 40% of Queenslanders who were the least likely to choose a greener option.
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from people who have bought home printers within the survey group. To qualify, the printer has to have been bought within the last two years. The survey questioned respondents about printers at a brand level, and included both ink jet and laser printers.
Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
Overall satisfaction
Canon received five stars for overall satisfaction, followed by Brother, HP, Samsung, and Epson on four stars, and Lexmark on three stars.
Price
Canon and Brother could not be separated, both receiving five stars for price. HP, Epson, Lexmark and Samsung also scored highly on four stars.
Cost of ink cartridges
Samsung and Brother achieved the highest score in this area, both receiving three stars. Epson, HP, Canon and Lexmark received two stars.
Performance and reliability
Canon again came out in front, receiving five stars for performance and reliability. Brother received four stars, followed by HP, Epson, Samsung and Lexmark on three stars.
Features, such as scanning, ability to print different sized pages and photos
Canon received five stars from its customers for features, followed by HP, Epson, Brother and Lexmark on four stars and Samsung on three stars.
Compatibility with non-original cartridges
Brother received four stars when it came to compatibility with non-original cartridges, followed by Canon, Samsung, HP and Epson on three stars, and Lexmark on two stars.
