Simply Energy Plans

Simply Energy has some of the quirkiest residential electricity deals on the market, with exclusive energy products for members of certain clubs, as well as offers which include dozens of free movie tickets.  Customers who sign up online for Simply Energy electricity will receive a bonus $25 credit towards their first bill. SA and VIC customers can get an extra $25 by signing up for gas as well.

Its two standard plans are the Simply Plus and the Simply Save. These are available across all the states it services. The names of its other offers vary across each state.

Simply Save

This is Simply Energy’s basic offer. It’s a variable rate plan that includes a pay on time discount on electricity usage charges for a benefit period of 12 months. The discount customers receive varies across each state (below). Exit fees apply in New South Wales and South Australia, but not in Queensland and Victoria.

State NSW QLD VIC SA

Simply Plus

The Simply Plus deal includes a bonus pay on time discount of 5% on top of what’s included in the Simply Save. Simply Plus is for a contract period of two years, rather than one. Keep this in mind if your state is slugged exit fees.

Simply Club Plus

Simply Energy has partnered with major clubs to offer exclusive deals to members. These deals include larger discounts than what’s offered to general customers.

  • Simply RACV Plus (VIC): 40% pay on time discount, two year benefit period, no exit fees
  • Simply NRMA Plus (NSW): 18% pay on time discount, two year benefit period, no exit fees
  • Simply RAA Plus (SA): 18% pay on time discount, two year benefit period, no exit fees
  • Simply RACQ Plus (QLD): 18% pay on time discount, two year benefit period, no exit fees

Keep in mind that with these offers, Simply Energy may require eligibility criteria checks. You will need to contact Simply Energy for more information.

Simply Gold Class/Movie Plus

This deal rewards customers with gold class or standard movie tickets. It’s a two year contract and applies the same discounts as the Simply Save plan. It is not available in Queensland.

  • NSW Simply Gold Class Plus: Receive 1 Village Gold Class movie ticket every three months, up to 8 tickets per fuel contract. Exit fees apply
  • VIC Simply Gold Class Plus: Receive 1 Village Gold Class movie ticket per fuel contract every quarter, up to 8 tickets over a 24 month contract period. No exit fees apply
  • SA Simply Movie Plus: Receive 1 Event Gold Class ticket or 2 standard tickets every three months. Maximum of 8 gold class tickets or 16 standard tickets per fuel contract. Exit fees apply

Simply Energy has also previously teamed up with Australian sports clubs to offer deals to supporters. They have included South Sydney Rabbitohs and Hawthorn Football Club. Deals usually just include $100 vouchers to spend at the club’s megatore. If this is of interest, be sure to ask Simply Energy about these offers.

Simply Energy Rates

In addition to its interesting deals and bonuses, Simply Energy electricity rates remain pretty competitive. In fact, our research has found Simply Energy to be one of the cheapest retailers in Victoria, while also being reasonably priced in other states.

To offer a guide as to the cost of Simply Energy and other retailers, we calculate expected quarterly bills for each provider’s highest-discounted offer. In the case of Simply Energy, we’re using the Simply Plus deal as it has the highest discount of any product not offered in partnership with a particular organisation. Is Simply Energy right for me?

Simply Energy seems a reasonable choice of retailer for most residential and small business electricity customers. It’s a consumer-friendly retailer with interesting offers, competitive rates, and a range of services to help you manage and reduce your energy consumption. Simply Energy is an especially appealing choice if you’re a member of one of its partnered clubs. That said, even if you receive a member’s bonus discount, be sure to compare rates and shop around to make sure you’re getting the best price on energy.

The other thing we should note is that customers need to be weary of exit fees. Some Simply Energy plans have them, and some don’t. Be sure to read the energy price factsheet so you’re sure of what you’re getting into.
