Expert Guide: Blue NRG Review and Ratings

Fact Checked Fact Checked

Blue NRG is an electricity retailer that exclusively services business customers across Victoria, New South Wales, south-east Queensland and South Australia.

Blue NRG says it understands small business and is passionate about delivering great customer service, striving to also provide competitive rates on electricity. It also has an online platform, available 24/7, called ‘My Account’ to help customers monitor their energy usage, access past invoices, update their account information and more. In this review, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Blue NRG.

Blue NRG Business Electricity Plans

Blue NRG is a business-only electricity retailer that aims to keep billing simple and transparent. Blue NRG does not offer conditional discounts, instead, favouring to provide competitive rates.

Blue NRG electricity offers come with the following perks:

  • Monthly e-billing
  • 24/7 Access to ‘My Account’
  • Smart Bills for consolidated energy accounts
  • No lock-in contracts for customers under the usage threshold: 40MWh in VIC, 100MWh in NSW and QLD and 160MWh in SA.

Blue NRG Business Energy Services

Blue NRG offers a variety of services under its business branch to help small and large businesses maximise energy usage whilst minimising costs. These include:

  • My Account
  • Electric Vehicle Chargers
  • Energy Health Check
  • Energy Management System

My Account

All Blue NRG customers receive access to ‘My Account’. With My Account, customers with a smart meter can review their electricity usage by year, month, week or day to raise awareness of when your business is using the most electricity. Customers can view their electricity usage in a user-friendly graph format for quick insights or export this information to a spreadsheet for further analysis.

My Account also provides 24/7 access to self-service tools such as downloading invoices and updating contacts. You can also set email alerts if your electricity usage exceeds a preset amount.

Electric Vehicle Chargers

Blue NRG also offers electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions for business premises and home offices. Its ChargeMate offer allows business customers to rent an EV charger for $30 a month. These chargers are installed and rented directly through Jet Charge and are claimed to be compatible with all EVs sold in Australia.

The installation fee for one of these chargers is about $750 and not included in the monthly rental fee. Blue NRG also claims this charging infrastructure can charge an EV three times faster than a standard charger.

Energy Health Check

Another service Blue NRG offers to business customers is energy health checks. Through its partnership with independent energy consultant, Empower, Blue NRG uses a desktop assessment to identify the areas where your business is using the most energy and curate solutions to help offset or reduce some of these costs. Blue NRG will then review your business’ energy usage over that period, including any solar exports and generational assets, to see where your business could save. The provider also compares details about your network tariff to see if there is a cheaper alternative.

An energy health check with Blue NRG costs about $400 and customers must use over 20MWh of electricity per year to be eligible for the assessment.

Energy Management System

Customers of Blue NRG are also eligible for an energy management system for their business. This bundled offer provides business owners with a smart hub that records and collates your company’s energy usage data. Using a mobile app, customers can then access this information and analyse potential energy cost reductions. This package also includes smart plus and controls too to help manage individual appliances’ energy usage.

According to Blue NRG, some of the benefits of an energy management system include solar optimisation, demand management and load scheduling, to help maximise on peak and off-peak periods.
