A long life milk brand has triumphed over traditional fresh milk brands to win our most satisfied customers award for milk.
UHT milk sales have seen an eight percent increase in 2009/10, according to statistics from Dairy Australia. Shopping for long life milk is becoming a worldwide trend, as 70% of Europeans drink UHT milk regularly.
Devondale is the winner of our most satisfied customers award for milk, and also the five star recipient for taste, health benefits and packaging.
Other brands rated were ALDI Farmdale, PhysiCAL, Harvey Fresh, Dairy Farmers, PURA, Pauls, Coles, Woolworths, and Brownes.
ALDI Farmdale received a five star rating for their price despite strong competition from big supermarket brands Coles and Woolworths. Harvey Fresh also received five stars for taste, and PhysiCAL received five stars for health benefits.
The supermarket milk war has also come to a head, as customers reap the benefits of discounted milk. Two in five respondents to our survey actively shop around for the cheapest milk they can find.
Baby Boomers are more reluctant to deviate, with only a little over one third seeking out bargain brands.
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. Outcomes reported are the results from those within the survey group who have purchased milk in the last six months.
Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
Overall
Customers were most satisfied with their Devondale milk, and the brand received a five star rating for overall satisfaction. ALDI Farmdale and Harvey Fresh both received four stars in this category, while PhysiCAL, Dairy Farmers, PURA, Pauls, Coles, Woolworths, and Brownes all received three stars overall.
Price
The recent milk price war has made this category exceptionally competitive. Both ALDI Farmdale and Coles received a five star rating for price. Devondale, Harvey Fresh and Woolworths all received four stars while PhysiCAL, Dairy Farmers, PURA, Pauls, and Brownes received three.
Taste
There’s nothing off about our five star rated milk brands, as Devondale and Harvey Fresh proved to be the top brands for taste. ALDI Farmdale, Dairy Farmers, PURA and Pauls all received four stars for taste while PhysiCAL, Coles, Woolworths, and Brownes all received three stars.
Health Benefits
One of our previous surveys found that three in five Australians check the nutritional information of their food before they purchase it. Devondale and PhysiCAL both received five stars for health benefits, while ALDI Farmdale, Harvey Fresh and Dairy Farmers all received four. PURA, Pauls, Coles, Woolworths and Brownes followed closely behind with three stars.
Packaging
Both Devondale and ALDI Farmdale received a five star rating for their customers’ satisfaction with their product’s packaging. PhysiCAL, Harvey Fresh, Dairy Farmers, PURA and Pauls all received four stars, while Coles, Woolworths and Brownes received three.
