Orange Power brushes up well for carpet cleaning

2016 Carpet Cleaner award winner - Orange PowerIt doesn’t matter how hard you try, slips and spills will always happen and that immaculately looking carpet will be in desperate need of a cleaning hero. We’ve all been there – you watch on in horror as that cup of hot chocolate is knocked off the arm of your sofa and drops to the floor in what appears like slow motion. NOOOOOOO you cry… but it’s already too late – not even the quickest reacting cricketer in the first slip position could save the day.

Accidents will leave you rushing for the nearest spray and cloth no matter how hard you try to protect your carpet. In fact, it sometimes seems like the harder you try, the more they happen. You may be familiar with the feeling of disappear when that absent-minded rugby player with muddy boots meets that brand new, cream-coloured carpet. No one seems to care as much as you…

Fortunately, you have a good friend in a quality carpet cleaner that will come to the rescue in those minor emergencies. But to find out which brand is the highest rated by Australians, we asked hundreds of consumers to review the products they most recently used. Of the five brands that featured in the results, we found the environmentally-focused Orange Power to be rated highest on effectiveness and overall customer satisfaction – the perfect combination for any cleaning job.

What’s in carpet cleaner?

The ingredients in carpet cleaner tend to be a bit more basic than other household cleaning products, certainly compared to the likes of toilet or oven cleaner. As a guide, Orange Power lists the following ingredients in its Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner.

  • Water
  • Orange oil
  • Non ionic surfactant
  • Proprietary ingredients
  • Anionic surfactant

No cleaning product should be taken for granted and you should always read and follow the directions and safety information printed on the packaging.

Carpet cleaning satisfaction

When it comes to carpet cleaners, it’s really all about effectiveness – cleaning that stain off the carpet when you thought it was there for good! We found the drivers of satisfaction for carpet cleaner to be as follows:

  • Effectiveness: 54%
  • Value for money: 19%
  • Environmental friendliness: 14%
  • Scent: 9%
  • Product design (ease of applying): 5%

It’s interesting to note that the feeling of getting value for money is more important for consumers who buy carpet cleaner than most other household cleaning products.

Frequently asked questions

Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 3,000 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and used a carpet cleaning product in the last six months – in this case, 632 people.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
