As the laundry market battle heats up and the major players up the ante on their environmental credentials, ALDI and has emerged as the consumer’s choice for laundry powder.
Our latest consumer survey shows the demand for eco-friendly laundry products is here to stay. It revealed ALDI has the most satisfied laundry powder customers and eco-friendly brand Earth Choice received the top tick of approval when it came to laundry liquid (
).
Consumers are undoubtedly becoming more aware of their eco-footprint and consumers are starting to vote with their wallets by choosing products that are kinder on the environment.
Brands are responding to this demand, with ALDI recently being the first major chain in Australia to commit to banning phosphate detergents across their entire range by the end of 2013. They currently stock two phosphate-free detergent brands.
ALDI stocks three laundry powder products under the brands of Almat, Laundrite and Trimat.
Phosphates are used in many laundry products because they soften hard water and break down dirt, but once released in the water they have a harmful effect on lakes and rivers.
The survey also showed us Australian consumers are not only looking for eco-friendly laundry products. They are going one step further with an impressive 1 in 4 people using leftover water from their washing machine in their garden.
Customers scored ALDI’s laundry powders top marks for
overall satisfaction, price, clean quality, number of washes, smell and feel of clothes.
Our survey also revealed some fairly consistent gripes for both laundry powder and liquid, including:
- High price
- Concerns on the powder’s impact on the environment
- Powder leaving a residue after the washing cycle
- Packaging design leading to product spillage once opened
- Poor cleaning result
- Unpleasant scent
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from people who have bought laundry powder within the survey group. To qualify, the laundry powder has to have been bought within the last 12 months.
Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
Overall satisfaction
ALDI achieved five stars for overall satisfaction, followed by Omo, Biozet, Fab, Drive, Radiant and Duo on four stars, and Cold Power and Spree on three stars.
Price
ALDI came out on top with five stars for price, while Biozet, Fab, Drive, Radiant, Duo and Spree received four stars. Omo and Cold Power followed on three stars.
Quality of clean
ALDI continued its winning run, achieving five stars for the quality of the clean achieved. Omo, Biozet, Fab, Drive, Radiant and Duo received four stars while Cold Power and Spree received three stars.
Number of washes
Five stars again for ALDI, followed by Biozet and Duo on four stars. Omo, Fab, Drive, Radiant, Cold Power and Spree received three stars.
Environmental friendliness
Biozet were awarded five stars for environmental friendliness, followed by ALDI, Fab and Radiant on four stars. Omo, Drive, Duo, Cold Power and Spree received three stars.
Smell
ALDI triumphed again when it came to smell, followed by Biozet, Fab, Drive, Radiant and Duo on four stars, and Omo, Cold Power and Spree on three stars.
Feel of clothes
ALDI customers were the most satisfied when it came to the feel of their clothes after washing, followed by Biozet, Fab, Drive, Radiant and Duo on four stars, and Omo, Cold Power and Spree on three stars.
