TPG Telecom describes itself as “a force in the Australian telecommunications industry”, providing residential and business customers a range of services from home internet to mobile.

Founded in 1986 as Total Peripherals Group, TPG has evolved into a major telecommunications provider, maintaining a presence throughout Australia. In April 2008, a reverse takeover by TPG of SP Telemedia was undertaken, with SP subsequently renamed TPG Telecom in November 2009.

In recent times, TPG has acquired AAPT (in February 2014) and iiNet (in August 2015), expanding its influence in the telecommunications sector.

What services does TPG offer?

TPG owns end-to-end network infrastructure, including over 400 DSLAM-enabled telephone exchanges across the country, inter-capital and metropolitan fibre optic networks, and the international PPC-1 submarine cable connecting Australia and Guam, with onwards connectivity to the USA and Asia.

“As we own and operate our own carrier-grade voice, data and internet network infrastructure, we have the network capability to deliver exceptional performance across every level of the organisation and take end-to-end responsibility in the services we offer,” TPG states.

Home internet

TPG provides a range of internet offerings for residential customers, including home phone and NBN bundles, along with broadband without a home phone, with consumers able to check via the TPG website as to whether they are eligible for the NBN at their address.

TPG’s home phone bundles, NBN bundles and broadband offerings are available at a variety of prices, packaged with different speeds and with data inclusions ranging up to unlimited data, available on a variety of different contract lengths, from six months through to 24 months.

TPG also offers voice add-ons with eligible plans, covering local, national and international call options.

TPG additionally offers free TPG IPTV with selected plans, for customers connected to a TPG IPTV-enabled exchange, with a download speed of greater than 3.5 Mbps, with TPG IPTV not included in monthly download limits.

“TPG IPTV allows you to watch selected TV channels via your PC or notebook, which are delivered to you through your TPG ADSL2+ connection, without the need to purchase an additional expensive set-top box,” TPG states of the service. “TPG ADSL2+ modems are now available preconfigured for IPTV.”

TPG additionally maintains a presence in the mobile sector, offering a number of SIM-only mobile plans.

The plans, falling under the banner of TPG’s T4G plans, come with varying data, call and text allowances, and have no lock-in contract.
