Vodafone is one of the larger telecommunications companies in Australia, maintaining a strong presence in the mobile sector, and providing a range of services for both residential and business customers.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia was formed in June 2009, following a merger between Vodafone Australia and Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia), with the two having formed a 50:50 joint venture, operating under the Vodafone brand.

What services does Vodafone offer?

Vodafone offers a range of mobile plans, from plans paired with a new phone, to SIM-only plans to prepaid plans and mobile broadband plans, with a range of data and talk add-ons also available, dependent on the plan.

“Whether you love to surf the net, TXT or talk, we have a mobile plan to suit you,” Vodafone states. “Our 24-month Red plans are loaded with data and inclusions. Or grab a month-to-month SIM-only plan and enjoy all the benefits of our network without a lock-in contract.”

Vodafone ranges the latest smartphones, available with a variety of personal and business plans, offering varying allowances. It also offers a number of entertainment options with its Red mobile plans (dependent on the plan), from music to movies.

“Take your pick – all the music you could want, thousands of hours of movies and TV, or breaking news updated every minute,” Vodafone states.

“Sign up to selected Red plans, and get Spotify Premium, Stan or The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age websites for up to 12 months. All the news and entertainment you want – on the network built for streaming.”

Vodafone’s SIM-only plans, meanwhile, provide for customers to bring their own phone to the plan, available on month-to-month, 12-month and 24-month contracts at a range of prices with varying allowances.

A number of different prepaid plans are also ranged by Vodafone, with a variety of different allowances.

Vodafone has also partnered with Qantas Frequent Flyer, offering plans that come with Qantas Points, comprising a range of 24-month Qantas Red plans paired with a new phone and 24-month SIM-only options.

Vodafone states that it has invested billions of dollars in its network in recent years and plans to continue to enhance it with new features, stating that its coverage now reaches 96 per cent of the Australian population.

Vodafone states of its 4G network: “Our 4G network is our best ever, and now covers over 22 million Australians. Our 4G coverage is available in all major metropolitan locations and selected regional areas across Australia.”

Account management

Vodafone customers have a range of tools at their disposal via Vodafone’s My Vodafone account management service.

“Stay on top of your plan or prepaid account with My Vodafone,” Vodafone states of the service. “View and pay bills, top up your prepaid, check your usage and update your account settings on any computer or mobile device.”

Via My Vodafone, customers can access a range of functions, including:
• Check their usage – see what they’ve used and what they have left from their included calls, text and data.
• International roaming – manage their international roaming settings.
• Payments and history – pay their bill, recharge their prepaid, set up direct debit, or view recent bills and recharge history.
• Account details – update their account settings, and manage their plan or alert settings.
Registration is available via the Vodafone website, with the My Vodafone app also available to download for on-the-go use.

Customer service and bill payment options

Vodafone provides a range of information via its website’s online support engine, presented under different topics, with Vodafone also providing device guide and phone set-up information via dedicated pages.

Consumers can also search for information, pose questions and engage in discussion via the Vodafone Community forum, and can engage with Vodafone via social media platforms Facebook and Twitter.

Vodafone can also be contacted directly by phone, while it additionally runs a network of stores across the country, with consumers able to search for their nearest store via the Vodafone website.
