One of the more successful newcomers to Australia’s mobile phone industry, amaysim has made a name for itself based on the low prices of its plans; amaysim even describes itself as “Australia’s first low cost mobile service provider”. amaysim was founded in 2010 by an international team of entrepreneurs, and is based on simyo, a European mobile service provider launched in 2005 by many of the same people involved in amaysim.
At time of writing, amaysim offers five prepaid mobile phone plans; they range in price from $5 to nearly $55, and each price rung offers exponentially more value than the last. For example, $5 gets you nothing but $5 of standard credit; step up to the $19.90 plan and you get 500mB of data and a cheaper per minute call rate. The two most expensive plans ($44.90 and $54.90) come with 5 and 7GB of data respectively, and both give you unlimited talk and text. The $5 plan expires after 90 days; however the other four plans expire after only 30 days.
