About LJ Hooker

LJ Hooker has its beginnings in Maroubra, Sydney, where a young entrepreneur started his first real estate business in 1928. The entrepreneur’s name was Leslie Joseph Hooker, and at the time he was only 24-years-old.

At first, it was tough going in the business sector, but Hooker struggled through, working hard to build his company. It was after hard times that the entrepreneur truly shone. Over the 20 years from 1950 to 1970, the company grew rapidly and Hooker was able to add some great achievements to his portfolio.

Throughout the 50s, Hooker’s real estate business grew and he also started real estate investment trusts. On top of that, he had amassed a 7.3 million acre private landmass for the company. This decade of growth resulted in the largest real estate network in Australia (as of 1960). As well as being large, the LJ Hooker Company had just pioneered franchising in this country. But that wasn’t all for the 60s – as Hooker also introduced the shopping mall concept to Australia.

The largest real estate network just didn’t stop growing during the 60s, with LJ Hooker extending into home development. By 1970, it had become the largest company involved in that field too.

Over 20 years, Leslie Joseph Hooker worked incredibly hard to build his company and make it successful, and his service was recognised. The dedicated entrepreneur from Sydney was knighted for his service to commerce and community, and then retired in the following year.

From there, the only way was up – or rather, out of Australia. Following some very big business decisions and purchases in the 1980s and 90s, LJ Hooker expanded. Starting in New Zealand, offices proceeded to open in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, India, Vanuatu and Fiji.

Today, there are more than 700 LJ Hooker offices around the world, helping individuals and businesses with their property needs.

Put simply, LJ Hooker can do a lot for your small business when it comes to real estate, it says. In addition to buying, selling, or leasing, its agents can help out with investments and can even lend a hand with finances with LJ Hooker Business Broking.

Whatever kind of space your business requires, LJ Hooker is likely to have something for you, with its listings of retail, office or industrial spaces, as well as land – for the business owner who wants to build from the ground up.
