3. Ask about backdating or extending a discount
If your negotiations prove successful and you do manage to score a new discount from your energy provider, it could pay to take that extra step and ask for it to be backdated or extended beyond the benefit period.
It’s perfectly reasonable to ask for the discount to be applied to at least your most recent bill.
4. Enquire about different energy tariffs
If you’ve exhausted all your options when it comes to your current energy plan, it may be worth asking your provider about some of the different tariffs available in your area as well.
An energy tariff refers to the way you are charged for your energy usage, such as a flat rate or flexible rate depending on the time of day you use your energy. Most households are likely to be on a single rate tariff, meaning they are charged the same rate for electricity, no matter the circumstances. However, other tariffs can be accessed depending on the type of electricity meter you have installed at your property.
For those households with a smart meter installed, it may be worth enquiring about the time of use or flexible pricing tariff rates available from your energy provider to make sure you aren’t potentially missing out on greater value there.
Keep in mind though, a flexible pricing tariff will only benefit those who take advantage of the cheaper usage times effectively – otherwise, you could be unknowingly signing yourself up for even more energy costs. So, be sure to look at the terms and conditions closely before making a purchase decision.
Although energy prices are continuing to rise, the energy market remains competitive and providers are keen to keep customers on board.
