While it certainly isn’t every driver, many Australians form emotional attachments to their vehicles. The results of our recent survey confirm this sentiment, revealing that one quarter of Australian drivers are showing their cars some love by giving them a name. Furthermore, 30% of respondents actually talk to their cars – and interestingly, women are even more likely to do this (35%).
As drivers go to efforts to personalise (and humanise) their vehicles, it stands to reason they’d take good care of them as well. Nearly three quarters of drivers use various car wash products like polish and wax to take care of their car’s appearance.
As for how often they washed their cars:
Auto stores provide an ideal avenue for drivers to acquire many of the tools needed for maintaining and caring for vehicles. For example, 22% of our respondents modified their car with products purchased from an auto store.

Customers of Supercheap Auto were most satisfied with the prices advertised by their auto retailer, compared to other auto stores. Repco, Auto One and Autobarn achieved four star ratings for their prices, and Autopro received three.
Find an auto retailer who’ll look after your needs as a customer. Repco achieved five stars for customer service, moving ahead of four star recipients Supercheap Auto, Auto One and Autobarn. Autopro received three stars for service.
If you’re confused by some of the more complicated inner-workings of your vehicle, why not ask the staff at your local auto store? Both Repco and Auto One received five star ratings for the knowledge of its staff. Supercheap Auto and Autobarn followed with four stars each; Autopro received three.
Browsing online for potential purchases is common practise nowadays, and many auto stores are going to the effort of improving their online offering for customers. Supercheap Auto customers were most satisfied with their auto store’s online presence, which earned the brand five stars. Repco, Auto One and Autobarn each received four star ratings, and Autopro received three.
You might have pretty standard needs for your vehicle, but it’s nice to know there are a wide range of products available at your auto store if you need them. Achieving five stars in this area was Supercheap Auto, followed by four star recipients Repco, Auto One and Autobarn. Autopro received three stars in this category.
Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased a product from an auto store in the last 12 months – in this case, 1,368 people.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
