Our review compares coffee machines on customer satisfaction, so you can find out what other Aussies think about the compared brands before you go ahead with a purchase. Think of it as like asking hundreds of your closest mates which coffee machine they think is best!
Canstar Blue surveyed 355 Australians for their feedback on the coffee machine(s) they’ve purchased and used in the last three years.
The winning brand is the one that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating once all the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are combined and averaged.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included, so not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The brands rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

De’Longhi was rated five stars across all categories, including ease of use, features & functionality, value for money, performance, ease of cleaning, design and overall satisfaction.
Italian kitchen appliances designer De’Longhi has one of the biggest ranges of coffee machines on the market, covering manual espresso machines, fully automatic coffee machines, capsule machines, and filter coffee makers. The manual espresso coffee machine range offers a number of different colours and styles, from sleek modern designs to retro throwbacks. The brand has also paired with Nespresso to create a range of coffee machines.
Its fully automatic coffee machine range also includes machines that create special beverages, including your own new recipes, plus brew multiple cups of coffee at a time. You can also check out models like the Dinamica Automatic Coffee Machine, which has a built-in grinder that you can adjust to suit your taste.
Sunbeam was rated four stars across all categories, including design, ease of cleaning, performance, value for money, features & functionality, ease of use and overall satisfaction.
Sunbeam is a leading appliance brand serving up a range of manual and semi-automatic coffee machines. The brand covers most budgets, starting with the Compact Barista Espresso Machine, a smaller coffee machine perfect for beginners, and goes right up to the Torino Espresso Machine & Grinder, a far more sophisticated machine for those who know exactly what coffee they are chasing. All machines within the Sunbeam range deliver café-style espresso and velvety steamed milk, but as you travel up in price, the machines allow greater temperature regulation, grind control, and feedback via pressure and temperature gauges.
Breville was rated four stars for design, performance, features & functionality and overall satisfaction, with three stars for ease of use, value for money and ease of cleaning.
Breville produces both manual and capsule coffee machines, plus a drip coffee appliance. The manual machine range starts with the Compact Café, and comes with a dial control with two settings, which either draws out espresso or turns on the steam wand. It also has three stainless-steel filters, each made for either a single shot, double shot, or an ESE pod.
There’s also the Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine, which is claimed to brew a cup of coffee from ‘bean to espresso’ within a minute. Aside from the built-in grinder, the unit also lets you pick between 16 grind settings and whether you want a single or double shot of espresso. You can additionally check the pressure gauge to make sure you’re using the right grind setting. It’s similar to the Oracle Touch, the most expensive coffee machine in the range. However, the unit is fully automatic and features a touchscreen display and an auto steam wand.
Kmart was rated four stars for value for money, ease of use and overall satisfaction, with three stars for features & functionality, performance, ease of cleaning and design.
Offering arguably the cheapest line-up of coffee machines, fan favourite Kmart seemingly has everything you need to fill out your house, from coffee cups through to the coffee machine itself! While it might not have the range as some brands, its Espresso machine features single and double shot options, milk steamer, detachable water tank and warming plate to pre-heat your cup. Kmart also offers a touchscreen espresso machine, with pre-programmable settings available to help you make a cuppa the way you like it.
