If you’re thinking about ways to keep cool this summer, you’ve no doubt considered air conditioning for your home…but how much will it cost you? Nearly two in three Australians (64%) who purchased a new air conditioning unit in the last two years paid more than $1,000, according to the results of one of our surveys. This was even more evident for Gen X respondents (70%), followed by Baby Boomers (63%) and then Gen Y’s (59%).
This is based on a sample of 550 people surveyed by Colmar Brunton back in early 2012 about their air conditioner usage behaviour.
While cost remains an important consideration, more than half (57%) of the respondents stated energy ratings were more important than price when deciding on which air conditioner to purchase. Â This was even more pronounced for those who lived in South Australia (69%) and New South Wales (61%).
Almost half the survey respondents (43%) use their air conditioner’s timer functionality to save on running costs. Leading the way with the usage of the clever function were Gen Y (58%) and Gen X (54%), while Baby Boomers were much less inclined to use their timers (only 30%).
In 2012, Fujitsu took out the award for Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customers – Air Conditioners, with a clean sweep of five star ratings in overall satisfaction, value for money, after sales service, reliability, ease of use, functionality, noise and energy efficiency.
