South Australian’s continue to pay the old school way

Most Satisfied Customers 2014 - Electricity Providers - SAThere are few things less enjoyable than paying your bills for the quarter, however a quick and easy payment method can take the pain out of parting with your hard earned cash.

When it comes to paying the electricity bill, BPay is the most common way to go with 44% of all respondents clicking their payment across. This was followed by direct debit, with a little over a quarter (26%) having their payments automatically taken out of their account.

However, some are still choosing to pay the old school way with 11% of the total respondents to our national survey making the trip to the post office to clear their debts.

It appears to be South Australian’s keeping this form of payment alive, with an unmatched 17% making their payment at the post office. As well as being ahead of the national average, it was ahead of all other states with Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland having 13%, 10% and 8% respectively making a run to the post office to ensure there is no money owing on their electricity bill.

Origin Energy prove they’re a cut above the rest in the South Australian Electricity market

In our survey, we asked South Australians to rate how satisfied they were with their current electricity provider. The results showed Origin Energy customers are the most satisfied with their electricity supplier which means they have been awarded 2013’s Most Satisfied Customers Award – Electricity Providers, SA.

Other five star gongs went to:

  • Energy Australia for uninterrupted supply and availability of payment plan options
  • Simply Energy for service and billing and,
  • Lumo for their availability of payment plan options.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have an electricity account and pay the bills – in this case, 352 people from South Australia.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall customer satisfaction

Origin led the pack and were awarded the five stars for overall customer satisfaction. AGL, Energy Australia, Simply Energy and Lumo all received four stars.

Value for money

It is important to be getting your bang for your buck when it comes to your electricity provider. Simply Energy earned four stars in this criteria, Lumo and Energy Australia followed with three and Origin and AGL received two stars each.

Uninterrupted supply

Energy Australia led the pack and were awarded five stars for uninterrupted supply. Simply Energy, Origin and AGL each received four stars and Lumo three.

Availability of payment plan options

Energy Australia and Lumo both scored five stars in this criteria, followed by AGL with four. Simply Energy and Origin received three stars apiece.


Good service is simple, with Simply Energy receiving five stars for theirs. Origin, Energy Australia and AGL each received four stars and Lumo three.


A clear bill makes the world of difference to help understand where your money is going. Simply Energy was awarded five stars for billing, Origin and AGL followed with four stars and both Lumo and Energy Australia received three.
