One in two say ‘The best pizza is a half-price pizza’

Most Satisfied Customers - Pizza Stores, 2013Pizza customers are looking for both food fast and great value, according to roughly half of the respondents to our recent survey who never pay full price for pizza. Instead, they opt to use discount vouchers or only purchase on days when their favourite pizza place is running a promotion.

More than 45% of respondents look for value by ordering more than they plan to eat so they have leftovers the next day.

It seems we’re also creatures of habit – with a number of our respondents declaring they never deviate from their usual pizza flavouring (40%). Interestingly, more women than men tend to order the same pizza toppings every time (46% versus 34%).

Some respondents to our survey are looking for more than just a quick meal when it comes to choosing their pizza. For example, two in five of those surveyed found specialty pizza crust options – such as extra cheesy, or hotdog crust – to be especially appealing. Similarly, more than a third of respondents said they could get all the food groups on a single piece of pizza.

Gourmet prevails: Pizza Capers score Canstar Blue award for third year running

If you have a taste for delicious pizza, one of our top rated pizza store brands will surely satisfy your appetite. Pizza Capers again received our Most Satisfied Customers Award – Pizza Stores, as well as five star ratings for overall customer satisfaction, customer service when ordering, variety of available menu items and the taste of its pizzas.

The three-time winner of this award was rated alongside Crust, Dominos, Eagle Boys and Pizza Hut. Looking more closely at these results:

  • Crust earned five stars for both its delivery service and variety of menu items available to customers.
  • Eagle Boys was number one in terms of value for money, and
  • Dominos achieved five stars for the deals and discounts available to customers, and its delivery service.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and eaten a pizza (by buying online or in person) from a specialist chain pizza store / restaurant in the last 3 months – in this case, 1,450 people.

Please note: This does not include those who purchased frozen pizza from a supermarket or independent pizza stores.Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall customer satisfaction

Congratulations to Pizza Capers for its five star award-win in the overall customer satisfaction stakes. Crust and Eagle Boys came next with four stars each, and then Dominos and Pizza Hut followed with three.

Value for money

Eagle Boys was the number one contender for value for money in 2013, securing five stars in this area. Pizza Capers, Dominos and Pizza Hut weren’t far behind with four stars each, and Crust finished with three.

Service when ordering

Customers of Pizza Capers were most satisfied with the service they received during the ordering process – either online, on the phone or face-to-face. Following the five star recipients was Eagle Boys with a four star rating, then Crust, Pizza Hut and Dominos with three.

Deals available

As previously mentioned, getting the best value from purchases is high on the lists of many pizza customers. In this regard, Dominos had ‘the edge’ with a five star rating for its available deals. Both Pizza Hut and Eagle Boys achieved four stars in this area, Pizza Capers scored three, and Crust received two.

Delivery (e.g. availability, time for delivery, additional charges)

Have you ever had a long day, and couldn’t stand the thought of getting in the kitchen to cook? A fast, readily available pizza delivery service can feel heaven-sent in these circumstances – and both Crust and Dominos excelled in this regard with five star ratings each. Eagle Boys and Pizza Hut received four star ratings for their delivery services, followed by Pizza Capers with three.

Variety of menu items available

Everyone has their favourite pizza toppings – whether it’s the tropical ham and pineapple, the classic margarita, or the delicious vegetarian supreme. Whatever the case, customers of both Pizza Capers and Crust are most satisfied with the range of pizzas, sides and drinks on offer. Both Eagle Boys and Dominos received four stars each, and Pizza Hut received three.

Taste of pizza

Pizza Capers emerged on top in this category, achieving five stars for pizza taste. Crust followed with a four star rating; Eagle Boys, Dominos and Pizza Hut each scored three.
