Poor car tyre purchases wear thin on one in four drivers
Good quality car tyres are essential for safe road travel, but nearly one in four respondents to our recent survey have bought cheap, low quality tyres instead … and regretted their purchase later on. Additionally, one in five let their tyres wear below what is considered ‘safe’ before replacing them.
A similar number of survey respondents lack the basic knowledge of being able to tell if they need new tyres (i.e. checking their tyre thread). Alarmingly, close to half of Generation Y respondents have trouble with this distinction.
Some of the responses from surveyed female drivers also show cause for concern. For example, two in five didn’t know how to change a car tyre at all, while more men (90%) knew their way around a jack and tyre iron. Women were also more likely than men to have called roadside assistance to enlist help in changing a tyre (35% versus 22%), and purchase whichever tyre their sales representative recommends (45% versus 30%).

Tyrepower rolls to five star victory for car tyre retailers
Nearly two thirds of our respondents researched new tyres before making a purchase, and even shopped around for the best price. We also found that 87% of respondents valued how safe a car tyre is over its cost.
Finding the best car tyres can be easier if you seek the help of a reputable retailer. In this latest survey, we compared brands from all across Australia to help you in this search.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
