‘Simply’ the best in our survey South Australian electricity providers

Simply Energy: 2014 SA electricity provider award winnersClose to two thirds of South Australians who respondents to our recent survey have stated that they’ve compared prices from different suppliers in an effort to save money on their bills.

It’s a smart move on their part: your electricity bill represents a significant annual outlay. According to the Grattan Institute, the average Australian power bill increased by 7% in the five year period leading up to 2013, while inflation only increased by 12%. So, how did South Australians keep their bills under control?

  • 21% of our survey respondents reportedly cut back on health and beauty products / services (e.g. gyms, make up),
  • 25% cut back on food and groceries in an effort to pay the bills,
  • 32% cut back on clothing, and
  • A significant 41% cut back on entertainment and recreation.

Happily, there’s now more competition in the South Australian utilities market to warrant shopping around since it was deregulated in 2013, which means you may not need to worry about making cuts in other areas of your life.

We looked at four big brand candidates: Simply Energy, Origin Energy, Energy Australia, and AGL, in our recent survey. We asked around to see which electricity provider South Australia customers were most satisfied with, and Simply Energy fit the bill for this year. This brand takes out our Most Satisfied Customers Award – Electricity Providers in South Australia.

Simply Energy achieved strong results, securing five star ratings for overall customer satisfaction, uninterrupted supply of electricity, availability of payment plan options, and customer service.

In other results, Origin shared five stars with Simply Energy for its uninterrupted power supply, and stood on its own with five stars for billing (i.e. clarity, accuracy). Energy Australia and AGL were also rated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 3,000 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have an electricity account and have paid the bills in the last two years – in this case, 447 South Australians.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
