And as you can see from the ratings table above, ALDI also sells an organic butter option which earned a four-star overall rating. Lurpak was the only brand to achieve five stars for taste.
ALDI ‘butters up’ Aussie grocery shoppers
Butter is the tasty backbone to any sweet treat, although you must of course watch how much you consume. It can easy to get carried away with those homemade cookies, forgetting about all the butter and sugar that made up the mixture!
So which butter helps cook up the best treats and is equally as kind to your wallet as your taste buds? To find out, we asked more than 2,000 consumers to rate the butter they most recently bought on a number of variables, including packaging, taste and value for money. Ten different brands featured in the results, including all the big names and supermarket labels. But only one, ALDI’s Beautifully Butterfully, got a five-star rating for overall customer satisfaction.

What do consumers look for in butter?
Is it all about the price, or do factors like taste and ingredients dictate which butter consumers buy? We found Aussie shoppers look for the following when they buy butter:
- Taste / quality: 75%
- Price: 72%
- Ingredients: 45%
- Brand: 36%
The interesting difference between these results and those for consumers who prefer to buy margarine is that people who buy butter are more concerned about the taste / quality of the products they purchase. For margarine, the figure was 66%.

Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 3,000 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and consumed butter from a supermarket or grocer in the last three months – in this case, 2,018 people.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
