Aussies favour green bathroom cleaning
If you’re going to judge a home on its cleanliness, the bathroom is the perfect place to start. On the front line of your morning rush and evening apathy, it’s a room that will naturally get messy and needs a decent amount of regular cleaning to avoid soap scum, calcium build-up and water stains that will inevitably occur. It can sometimes feel like your bathroom is impossible to keep clean, owning to all those personal hygiene products and other bits and pieces you leave lying around the place.
No room provokes arguments amongst family members and friends quite like the bathroom. If you regularly pick up other people’s dirty towels or remove hair from drains, you’ll know all too well what we’re talking about. Fortunately a good bathroom cleaner can help alleviate some of your bathroom bugbears and make the cleaning process that little bit easier. It won’t be able to throw out those annoying empty bottles of shampoo or shower gel for you, but it will keep your bathroom looking and feeling fresh and clean.
So to find out which bathroom cleaner brushes up the best, we asked more than 2,000 adults to rate the products they most recently bought across a range of categories. A total of 17 brands featured in the results, but only the environmentally-focused Earth Choice achieved top marks for overall customer satisfaction.
What’s in bathroom cleaner?
Bathroom cleaners tend not to include some of the harsh chemicals you will find in some other household cleaning products, but you’re still advised to take precautions. As an example of the ingredients used in bathroom cleaners, Earth Choice lists the following ingredients in its Shower Cleaner product.
- Citric acid
- Sodium coco sulfate
- CI 15985
But remember that ingredients will vary between brands. Always read the directions and safety instructions on the packaging.
Bathroom cleaning satisfaction
Bathrooms are inherently susceptible to grime and mould, so you’ll need a bathroom cleaner that is up to the job. But prices can vary significantly between different brands, so you’ll also want to feel like you’re getting value for money from your cleaning companion. We found the drivers of satisfaction for bathroom cleaners to be:
- Effectiveness: 45%
- Value for money: 18%
- Scent: 11%
- Environmental friendliness: 11%
- Ease of use: 10%
- Product design (ease of applying): 5%
As we know, there are numerous brands to pick from when you buy bathroom cleaner, so you can afford to be choosy.
Frequently asked questions
Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 3,000 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and used a bathroom cleaning product in the last six months – in this case, 2,144 people.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
