Easy Off deemed to make oven cleaning… Hassle free

Cleaning your oven presents one of the most challenging chores you’re likely to face in the home – particularly if you’ve been putting it off for some time. When you tidy up after an evening meal, it can be easy to overlook your trusty oven once you’ve cleaned the table, stacked the dishwasher and poured your first glass of wine. Unfortunately for your oven, it tends to fall down the cleaning priority order and becomes ‘out of sight, out of mind’. You promise yourself you’ll clean it another day. But do you?

You probably don’t want to think about the grease and old food residue lurking behind that oven door, but it’s important that you do – and do something about it. It may not be a pleasant task – in fact it can be downright dirty work – but despite the inconvenience, it’s an essential cleaning job and one that becomes more and more difficult the longer you leave it.

So if it’s time you put in some serious elbow grease, consider our customer satisfaction ratings for some guidance before you dig out the rubber gloves. We asked hundreds of Australian adults to rate the cleaning products they most recently used and Easy Off scored highest for effectiveness and overall customer satisfaction. Cleaning your oven is always going to require a certain amount of hard work, but it’s good to find a product that accounts for its fair share of the effort – otherwise, you might go through an extremely vigorous workout with little or new rewards.

What’s in oven cleaner?

Oven cleaner ingredients will vary between brands, but you can safely assume they will include some rather unpleasant chemicals – more so than most household cleaning products. So to be safe, you should avoid contact with the skin and eyes, and of course avoid ingestion. Be sure to read the directions and safety instructions printed on the packaging before use. After cleaning, you may also want to wash away the chemicals used in the oven cleaner, which you can do by using bi-carb soda (sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar. The bi-carb removes stains while the vinegar can cut through grease.

Oven cleaning satisfaction

It stands to reason that you’ll want an oven cleaner that can effectively tackle stubborn stains and remove grease, but you’ll also need a product that is easy to use if you’re going to get the best cleaning results. And of course you’ll also be conscious of getting value for money – which is likely to be determined by how effective the oven cleaner actually is. We found the drivers of customer satisfaction for oven cleaner to be as follows:

  • Effectiveness: 44%
  • Ease of use: 24%
  • Value for money 16%
  • Environmental friendliness: 13%
  • Product design: 2%

Effectiveness should always be the greatest driver of customer satisfaction when it comes to cleaning products, especially oven cleaner. Scent may be a more important factor for things like bathroom or carpet cleaners, but when it comes to ovens it’s all about living up to expectations.

Frequently asked questions

Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 3,000 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and used an oven cleaning product in the last six months – in this case, 781 people.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
