Spread the news: ALDI’s #1 for butter
Butter is so often the unsung hero of the kitchen – it’s the ingredient that pops up in so many different recipes that you almost always have stored away ready to play a starring role. Butter is the backbone to so many sweet treats, but isn’t all butter basically the same? Well, it seems not, according to our customer ratings.
Every year Canstar Blue surveys thousands of households across the country to find out how they rate several food staples based on factors including taste and value for money. You may also be interested in:
This is the second year of our ratings for butter – and there is a repeat winner in the shape of discount supermarket chain ALDI. Its rather imaginatively-named ‘Beautifully Butterfully Butter’ has again received five stars for overall customer satisfaction, in addition to top marks on texture, packaging and value for money.
Brands from Coles and Woolworths also appeared in the ratings, alongside big name brands Devondale, Mainland, Lurpak and Western Star. Other notable results included:
- Mainland and Western Star both joined ALDI Beautifully Butterfully in rating five stars for taste.
- Six of the seven brands achieved at least four stars on value for money. The only one to receive three stars was Lurpak.
Five-star reviews were in short supply, however, making ALDI a standout performer. ALDI has traditionally been a very strong contender in our customer ratings for various food items over the years, regularly the recipient of top marks in terms of value for money. ALDI’s Beautifully Butterfully Butter comes in a 250g block, with a spreadable dairy blend of the same branding also available in a 500g tub.
As you can see, nutritional details of ALDI Beautifully Butterfully are clearly visible on the front of the packaging, which is a good move from ALDI because, as you probably know, butter tends to include lots of saturated fat. Whichever brand you prefer, be sure to check these details and consume in moderation. We hope you find our ratings helpful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 3,000 Australian adults across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have bought and eaten butter from a supermarket or grocer in the last 3 months – in this case, 2,080 people.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
