THIS DEAL IS NO LONGER PUBLICLY AVAILABLE

Australia’s largest energy provider has revealed a mouth-watering deal that will surely make moving house a whole lot easier (and tastier).

Origin Energy has teamed up with Uber Eats to provide free delivery on 30 food orders over three months to help ease stress at a time when convenience is king.

Aussies who sign up to Origin’s ‘Basic’ electricity or gas plan may be eligible to sink their teeth into this tasty offer, which ends 31 March 2020.

Canstar Blue Editor-in-Chief, Simon Downes, said these types of plans that see energy companies partnering with other service providers are going to become more common in light of industry changes.

“Big conditional discounts are now a thing of the past, so the energy retailers need a new way to market their plans,” he said. “This is generally good news for customers because it creates a point of difference between providers at a time when more and more are entering the market and picking a good deal is a real challenge.

“Lately there has been a number of energy providers giving away everything from movie tickets to sports streaming subscriptions, and even a zoo membership. These sign-up incentives are great for short-term value but pay attention to the underlying charges of energy plans as they could be hiding inflated rates. Currently the Basic plan is not Origin’s cheapest deal, but it could be a good option for those licking their lips at the thought of having takeaway food delivered for free.

“With sign-up deals like these, just make sure the incentive is something you’ll get value from. If you do, then great. If not, you could probably save money elsewhere.”

As a general guide, a $5 Uber Eats delivery fee will save customers $150 over 30 orders, but delivery charges vary depending on vendor and location.

The Origin-Uber Eats deal is available in all states except Western Australia. Customers must be moving house and sign-up to a ‘Basic’ electricity or gas plan online. The Origin Basic product has variable rates, no exit fees or lock-in contracts, along with flexible payment options.

According to Origin, signing up is simple and can be completed in three steps:

  1. Sign up online and choose a connection date
  2. Receive a unique code by email within 72 hours
  3. Activate the code in the Uber Eats app
