Zymil Milk Review & Guide

Nowadays, there are all kinds of milks stocked in our supermarket refrigerators, catering for a variety of different dietary needs – one of which is Zymil milk. It’s produced by Pauls – a well-known Australian brand name for a range of dairy products. But what exactly does the Zymil range entail and is it worth the extra cost? Canstar Blue offers this guide to help you decide.

What is Zymil milk?

Regular milk contains lactose – naturally occurring sugar found in dairy – which some people may find difficult to digest. Pauls Zymil milk, however, has this sugar already broken down by adding an enzyme called lactase. This enzyme helps to break down the lactose (milk sugar) into simple sugars – glucose and galactose, making Zymil milk lactose free. This can allow people who have an inability to digest lactose, or are lactose intolerant, to consume dairy products.

There any many milk brands that advertise themselves as lactose free, but don’t contain cow’s milk, thus don’t have the same nutritional benefits. These include manufactures of almond, soy or rice milk. Some add calcium and vitamin D into their variants in order to help produce similar nutrition that milk has, but without any lactose risk. However, Zymil boasts no digestive discomfort, plus the benefits of milk.

The Pauls Zymil line covers the full range of milk options, including:

Additionally, in the Zymil range you’ll find cream, yoghurt and custard.

Should you buy Zymil milk?

While dairy products have many nutritional benefits, those who are sensitive to lactose, or are lactose intolerant, are driving the lactose free milk market. Having Zymil milk on offer provides consumers with a lactose free option. By also offering a variety of other milk options, including flavoured milk, it further appeals to consumers as it allows them to not miss out on beverages they enjoy.

People who have lactose intolerance are lactase deficient – the enzyme required to digest cow’s milk – so, adding lactase to Zymil milk helps break down the milk sugar and allows people to absorb it without the production of gas or intestinal distress. However, if you don’t have dairy issues, you could be paying double the price for nothing, as Zymil milk typically costs $4.90 for two litres. Maybe you like the taste anyway?
