Forget the debate over when hot cross buns should be sold, Woolworths has gone one step further by launching its own hot cross bun flavoured ice cream!
The limited-edition ice cream flavour comes in a 1L tub and features decadent Aussie cream with juicy raisins and smooth hot cross bun-spiced ripple.
The ice cream retails for a very pocket-friendly price of $4.70 for the 1L tub.
As it turns out, hot cross buns are a pretty popular treat, even if it’s months away from Easter, with the big supermarket chains stocking their shelves earlier and earlier every year.
Coles released its hot cross buns on Boxing Day, sending social media into a frenzy as the annual debate about when they should go on sale kicked off. Woolies then started selling the traditional treats this week. But it’s the ice cream version that really has people talking.
Woolworths Head Baker, Ben Thompson, said: “It’s clear that many of our customers love getting their hands on hot cross buns as soon as they can and our team of expert bakers right around the country are excited to be beginning their annual baking of fresh, hot and tasty hot cross buns to meet the January demand.
“There’s no doubt of their ever-growing popularity and we’re taking it up a notch this year with the introduction of our new Woolworths Hot Cross Bun Flavoured Ice Cream. It’s perfect for summer, perfect for sharing and is a perfect accompaniment when enjoyed with any of our traditional hot cross buns.”
