Boost your weight loss shakes with these foods

Are you starting to get bored of your weight loss shakes? Hang in there! Adding fruits, yoghurt, nuts or veggies to your weight loss shakes not only makes it a more exciting meal for you but can add to the nutritional value.  Next time you are preparing a weight loss shake, try mixing it up with any of the following ingredients.

If you enjoy the texture and creaminess of smoothies, then adding yoghurt will achieve this for you. Yoghurt’s basic nutrients include calcium, protein, fibre to aid your metabolism, Vitamin C for immunity and Vitamin D to facilitate calcium absorption.

Simply scoop 1/3 cup of your preferred yoghurt and blend it with one of your weight loss shakes. Serve it with ice cubes and you’ve got a sweet and healthy drink.

Mixed fruits and nuts

Break the flavour boredom of your weight loss shakes and add some tropical zest and nuttiness to them. Berries, almonds and oranges are great options for this. They’re rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin K for heart disease prevention and Vitamin B for energy. Almonds are also filled with Vitamin E and fibre.

Slice three tablespoon’s worth of strawberries and blueberries. Crush another teaspoon of almonds, and blend with your shake.

You’re always told to eat your greens but this could be your chance to conceal their taste with the flavours of your weight loss shake. Spinach is usually a good start and rich in fibre.

If you’re a fiend for the 3pm coffee, this is an opportunity to mix it with your shake and cut out the calories you would have consumed with the milk in your coffee.  You can also take this before exercising after a long day at work to give you some motivation.

Bananas and Peanut Butter

Go beyond your typical PB&J sandwich. You can mix some sliced bananas and a spoonful of peanut butter with your whey enriched weight loss shake. Bananas are rich in potassium, enabling you to carry out those exercises with increased strength. Peanut butter is not only a delicious addition but it provides healthy fats.

You could say there are just as many nutritional add-ons as there are actual weight loss shakes in Australia. The trick is to choose which type of weight loss shake will help your personal fitness goals and provide you the nutritional requirements your body needs.
