Chilling Adventures of Sabrina returns to Netflix for season two

The old Sabrina can’t come to the phone right now – she’s pretty busy running amuck as the new evil superstar of the magical world.

But she can tell you this: ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ is returning to our screens April 5, with the highly anticipated second installment dropping on Netflix Australia, following its breakout debut season and the Christmas special ‘A Midwinter’s Tale’.

What is ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’?

When Netflix announced it would be rebooting the much-loved 90s sitcom ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’, it was met with mixed reviews. ‘How can anyone replace the absolute brilliance that was Melissa Joan Hart and her talking cat?’ A fair question, but there was definitely room in the market for a new teen witch – and that’s where Chilling Adventures of Sabrina came in.

Produced and written by Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa (who is also Riverdale’s show runner), the show takes the beloved world of Sabrina and throws it into darker light (aka the moody town of Greendale) – with the result being a smash hit. ‘Chilling Adventures’ is still centered around Sabrina, and features all your favourites, like Harvey and aunts Hilda and Zelda – but it’s devilish witchcraft like you’ve never seen before (did someone say the Dark Lord?)

A quick witchy recap

For those of you who devoured the first season (and that Christmas special) a little too quickly to remember what happened, or you’ve decided to start the series with part two (weird), here’s what you need to know. All season, we saw sweet Sabrina actively resist signing the Book of the Beast despite expectations of family and the magical community. But just like her breakup with the adorable Harvey, the signature was inevitable – a sacrifice she took in order to save her friends. The finale ended with Sabrina as a hero, but now that she’s signed a deal with the devil, we have a feeling things are going to get a lot more evil.

What can we expect from Part 2?

Following on from the finale and the Christmas special, season two is set to explore Sabrina’s ‘darker side’ as she has now fully pledged herself to the Dark Lord and the Church of the Night – sounds like a nightmare to us. The opening scene in the official part two trailer teases Sabrina walking into her high school late at night, with a can of something we can only assume is flammable judging by the match she lights. Surely Sabrina can’t be converted so soon?

As Sabrina becomes more exposed to the magical world, she starts to question her heritage and is determined for answers. Spending so much time on witchcraft alongside the Dark Lord will come at a price though – we will see Sabrina struggling to maintain her friendships in the mortal world. New episodes will also see Sabrina caught in an epic love triangle between ex-boyfriend Harvey Kinkle and warlock Nicholas Scratch (some of you have clearly never had to choose between a mortal and a warlock… and it shows). And the final and most important question on everyone’s lips? Will there ever be a Riverdale and Chilling Adventures crossover? Greendale is just over the pond, after all.

So witches and warlocks, strap yourself in – it’s time for Netflix and the chill-ing adventures of Sabrina.
