Forget about new romantic teen cult classics like ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ and ‘The Kissing Booth’. Netflix has got plenty of tails wagging with the warm and fuzzy love story everyone has been waiting for.
‘Dogs’ is a six-episode documentary series and premieres in Australia today (16 November). It digs deep into the lives of several dog owners and their beloved four-legged friends to showcase the unconditional bond between person and pooch.

In an interview with Variety, executive producers Amy Berg and Glen Zipper discussed how the docuseries is more than just an ordinary fluff piece. The duo say the different stories from countries such as Japan, Italy and Costa Rica should instead remind viewers of how love really is a universal language.
“In times of division, volatility and confusion ‘Dogs’ is an emotional palate cleanse. Watching the show offers a salve for the spirit and reminds us of the redemptive power of love,” Berg told Variety.
“Dogs don’t just make us feel loved, dogs make us feel safe,” Zipper said. “In the world we live in today, no matter how divided we are, we should take care to realize how much dogs mean to all of us, and how our bond with them can help bring us together.”
Social media users have been quick to share their excitement, with many people praising the creators for adding variety to Netflix as well as covering topics like pet adoption and the importance of service dogs.
Finally! something besides murder, serial killers and cooking docs. Can’t wait!

A number of people in America even saw the funny side to the trailer release date for the series last month. “Did Netflix drop the trailer for DOGS on National Cat Day?” one person jokingly posted on Twitter.
Although there were a few users more concerned about whether or not each episode will have a ruff ending.
If a single dog dies in that Netflix documentary I’m cancelling my subscription

Right? @zipper @netflix I need confirmation that none of the dogs die before I will watch. Dogs dying are a deal breaker. pic.twitter.com/rB5AHN0IiZ

What to expect in the documentary
Netflix released the trailer for the Dogs Original in October and treated audiences to a sneak peek into some of the heart-warming moments they can expect to see.
One episode follows the heroic quest of Ayham, a man who ventured through war-torn Syria to bring his Siberian husky home to Lebanon.
Another clip reveals the life of Heidi Ewing, an 11-year old girl who suffers from traumatic seizures, and her certified therapy dog.
An episode directed by Berg also walks through the process of pet adoption by visiting Hearts and Bones Rescue, an organisation which takes dogs from overcrowded shelters and brings them to their ‘forever families’ in New York and Texas.
A different episode similarly gives an insight into the lives of shelter workers in a Costa Rican rainforest who work to keep thousands of dogs off the streets.
Other short snippets hint at the journey of two dog groomers participating in a major dog grooming competition, while another explores the meaning of ‘man’s best friend’ by showing the story of an Italian fisherman and his fetching business partner.
The documentary series was developed by Zipper and features various directors including TJ Martin, Daniel Lindsay, Richard Hankin and Roger Ross Williams.
