Netflix Australia will now stream all Harry Potter movies

Prepare yourself, Potterheads. Netflix has just announced that the complete Harry Potter collection will be available to stream from January 15, 2019.

It’s been seven years since the Hogwarts Express departed from platform nine and three-quarters with the new generation of wizards and witches. But now, even muggles can call out “accio” to summon their screens and snacks for a highly anticipated non-stop Netflix binge-fest.

And in a strange twist of fate, Aussie Netflix subscribers (and our cousins in New Zealand) will be getting access to the full collection of Potter movies, while those in the United States, Canada and the UK will go without because of contractual issues!

Australian fans of the beloved franchise have been left stupefied since the news broke, with many muggles expressing their excitement all over social media.

One Twitter user said it was a strange choice to release the films after the Christmas holidays, but it won’t stop them from binge-watching the eight-part film adaptation of J.K Rowling’s novels.

As we say “obliviate” to the year that was, the fight to become the most watched streaming platform in Australia heats up as major competitors Netflix and Stan bring out the big wands.

Stan recently announced it had secured the rights to a wide range of Disney content, similarly offering users a wide variety of classics like Toy Story and Lion King. Netflix had previously owned the rights!

Which Harry Potter films will be on Netflix?

From cheering Harry on during his first Quidditch match, to witnessing the moment Ron whispers Hermoine’s name in a heart-wrenching declaration of love, you can soon revisit it all on Netflix.

The Harry Potter movies on Netflix are:

  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
