Optus currently tops Canstar Blue’s customer satisfaction ratings for mobile broadband providers and is now pushing to increase the value proposition further with beefed-up data allowances and data-free TV and music streaming on selected plans.
Available for new and existing customers, plans start from $15 per month for 2GB of data over a 24-month contract. The data inclusions increase steadily, with 25GB available for just $50 per month, and the aforementioned 50GB deal for $70 per month, again over two-year terms.
“These plans have it all: generous data inclusions, loads of entertainment, and a great range of tablets and dongles, all delivered over Optus’ reliable mobile network,” said Tim Cowan, Head of Mobile Marketing at Optus.
The relaunched mobile broadband plan range now includes unmetered Netflix streaming, meaning you can watch your favourite TV shows and movies as much as you want on the go. Customers on the $35 and $50 per month plans will need to pay an additional $10 per month, but the feature is included as standard in the $70 per month plan.
Mobile TV streaming is available with a tablet purchase only, and you will need to subscribe to Netflix yourself.
The data-free video streaming feature has also been announced for Optus’ range of handset phone plans.
Mobile broadband plans compared
Optus certainly competes at the cheapest end of the spectrum when it comes to mobile broadband plans. It’s revised 2GB for $15 per month deal is only bettered by Vodafone which offers 3GB of data for the same price over 12 months. See the table below for the latest cheap plans.
Optus is also very competitive if you’re looking for a plan with around 10GB of data per month. This time the challenge comes from Vivid Wireless with 10GB for $29, compared to $35 from Optus.
In fact, Vivid Wireless would be a challenge to anyone with its most expensive plan – unlimited mobile data for just $89 per month, although you will need to pay over $200 in start-up costs. Optus gives you 200GB for $80 per month.
The mobile broadband space is becoming increasingly competitive, so if you’re looking for a new plan, keep your eyes peeled for the latest bargains. If it’s data-free video streaming you want, both Optus and Vivid Wireless are leading the pack.
