After announcing the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro at IFA 2018, you can now pick up these Huawei flagship phones in Australia.
As with the Google Pixel 3 launch, Huawei’s Mate 20 reveal had been somewhat spoiled by months of online leaks. But if you’re just looking for a new, high-end Android device – there’s plenty here to get excited about.
Of course, if you’re just here for the plan and price details, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are available to order from both Vodafone and Optus. Use the links below to skip ahead to your provider’s prices and plans.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
The Mate 20 Pro features a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen, plus 128GB of storage and Huawei’s new, ultra-fast Kirin processor. This means you’ll get a big bright phone screen, plenty of on-board storage (plus compatibility with Nano memory cards up to 256GB), and an impressively speedy performance. The Mate 20 Pro will also run Android 9.0 Pie, feature an on-screen fingerprint sensor, and 6GB of RAM.
The Mate 20 Pro includes wireless supercharging, but with an added feature: reverse wireless charging. If you have other Qi-compatible devices and accessories, you’ll be able to use your Mate 20 Pro’s 4,200mAh battery to, in turn, charge those devices. Even if you’re not planning to use your phone as an on-the-go charger, you’re still likely to get a full day’s use out of the Mate 20 Pro’s battery life (or several days, if you’re a light user).
Camera-wise, Huawei has continued its partnership with Leica to offer a specially designed triple-lens setup in back. You’ll get a 40-megapixel wide angle lens, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide angel lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, offering high-quality wide-angle shots as well as surprisingly detailed close-ups. If selfies are more your thing, the Mate 20 Pro’s front-facing camera features a 24-megapixel lens.
In terms of design, Huawei continues the bezel-less trend, although the size and width of its top-screen notch may irritate users who prefer an unimpeded status bar. However, with IP68 dust and water resistance, and an overall sleek design, the Mate 20 Pro is an impressive addition to Huawei’s premium smartphone range.
Huawei Mate 20
If you want something a little cheaper, the Mate 20 is the more affordable alternative to the Pro model. With a 6.53-inch LCD screen, the Mate 20’s display isn’t quite as high-end, but the device does offer much of the same internals as the Pro: a Kirin 980 chipset, 128GB of storage and 6GB ram, and Android 9.0 Pie.
The Huawei Mate 20 includes a similar triple-lens Leica rear camera as the Mate 20 Pro, but with different specifications: the setup includes 12-megapixel, 16-megapixel, and 8-megapixel lenses. Battery size is also smaller (4,000mAh), and reverse wireless charging isn’t included.
The Mate 20 will retail at $1,099 upfront, and is available in black. The Mate 20 Pro comes with a $1,599 price tag, and will be be rolled out in both black and midnight blue. Both devices are available to buy unlocked (and SIM-only plan ready) from Harvey Norman, JB HiFi, MobileCiti and Kogan, while you’ll only be able to pick up the Mate20 Pro from Vodafone and Optus.

Vodafone Huawei Mate 20 Pro Plans
Vodafone no longer has stock of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. The telco does stock devices from Huawei and other providers, which are available on a 12, 24 or 36-month payment period. You’ll then be able to bundle with one of the four postpaid plans. The postpaid plans that are bundled with a device are virtually the same as the SIM-only postpaid plans with the contract period the only difference. Plans bundled with a smartphone run month-to-month, while SIM-only run on a 12-month contract.
