Optus launches new ‘Sleek’ handset

You’ve heard of the Apple iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy, and maybe even the new Pixel smartphone from Google. But what about the new handset from Optus? That’s right, the local mobile service provider has revealed a brand new phone called the 4G Optus X Sleek, available to prepaid or postpaid SIM only users who want a new handset more befitting of the digital age.

The 4G Optus X Sleek costs just $149 – about seven times less than what you’d pay for the new iPhone 7. Sure, it isn’t the iPhone 7, but Optus doesn’t claim it to be. What it is, however, is a smart and useful handset for mobile users who simply don’t need, or crave, the bells and whistles of the top end smartphones.

That said, the 4G Optus X Sleek still boasts some pretty nifty features, including:

  • Fingerprint sensor
  • 13 MP main camera with dual tone flash and aperture lens
  • 5 MP front camera with LED flash
  • HD video playback
  • 3 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system

Optus also claims it has a battery life of up to 13 hours talk time, or 17 days standby time!

Ben White, Managing Director of Marketing and Product at Optus, said: “We know that our customers are looking for affordable handset options without having to compromise on features or quality, and the Optus X brand will deliver a range of devices with the features they’re looking for.

“The 4G Optus X Sleek is a fantastic option for our customers, it’s got great features like fingerprint sensor access and a 13 megapixel main camera, and we’re proud to be bringing such a high quality product to market under the Optus name.”

The 4G Optus X Sleek comes with a bright five-inch high-definition display encased in a premium metal and curved glass design. The fingerprint sensor gives users fast unlock and quick access to its handy features, and the powerful 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 2GB RAM allows for multiple app use at the same time.

The handset comes with a prepaid SIM card, plus charger, micro-USB cable and earphones. While the handset costs $149 to purchase, your chosen prepaid or month to month postpaid phone plan will be an extra expense on top.

While the handset can be used with an existing postpaid SIM card, customers are advised that the phone is locked on the Optus network.

The 4G Optus X Sleek is available from Optus stores, plus other selected re-sellers including Big W, Officeworks, Kmart and Coles.
