Netflix introduces new user account icons

If your Netflix account is still stuck on the old lopsided smiley face, you might want to check out some of the new icons on offer.

Netflix has just introduced a new comprehensive suite of new profile icons, with over 100 available. Users previously had access to only a handful, with 2D images of penguins, robots and the dreaded lopsided smiley face.

Users can now choose from many show-themed icons, including rejuvenated classics and from popular shows such as Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things and more.

“We’re thrilled to give you a way to show your fandom and make your connection with Netflix more unique,” the company said in a blog post.

“Profiles are key to creating a highly personalized Netflix experience. By watching on your own profile, we can showcase suggestions for TV shows and movies we’re sure you won’t want to miss.”

Existing icons received a style upgrade to make them appear more 3D-like, with shading and colour splashes to add depth.

According to Netflix, the most popular base icons currently are the dog, the man with the moustache, the penguin, the woman superhero and the Anime-like woman.

The changes were five years in the making, with profiles and icons first introduced in 2013.

The chicken icon is available through the Orange is the New Black icon series. Don’t ask this writer about the chicken reference – he doesn’t know.
