Boxing Day Sales

Find the best Boxing Day deals in Australia.

Savvy shoppers would agree Boxing Day is the real jewel in the crown of the festive season. It’s the day retailers and brands offer huge discounts and deals across categories including appliances, tech, beauty, telco and more.

That means there’s also a lot of hype (and marketing gimmicks) around Boxing Day, but fret not because Canstar Blue is here to help you save money while you spend money. Check out our expert round-up of some of the best Boxing Day sales below.

Official Boxing Day sales will begin on the 26th December, in the meantime check-out our partner offers below!

What’s Boxing Day?

It’s one of the biggest sales events of the year and follows straight after Christmas Day, which means Boxing Day falls on the 26th of December each year. It’s colloquially known as ‘bargain day’ because it’s when retailers and brands reduce prices and mark down merchandise to clear their stock ahead of the new calendar year. This means shoppers can score discounts on both big-ticket and smaller items. It’s a great time to spend gift cards or money you received at Christmas to ensure you get extra bang for your buck. And Boxing Day is a public holiday in Australia, so many people get the day off. Win-win!

Pro tip: Compare deals and discounts from your favourite brands ahead of Boxing Day to give yourself the best chance to nab everything on your wishlist at the best price. Don’t forget to ask retailers if they price match (which many do!).

FAQs about Boxing Day

Boxing Day is a longstanding shopping event, with many retailers and brands slashing prices on select products or across their range from December 26. Sales traditionally start when doors open for brick-and-mortar stores or when the clock strikes midnight for online shopping. Boxing Day deals may even be available a few days before the official day. Be sure to plan and set yourself a budget in advance.

Most retailers and brands will continue their sales for a few days after Boxing Day or until the New Year, depending on their stock levels. However, keep in mind that the best deals and discounts on offer are exclusive to Boxing Day.

Most of Australia’s major retailers offer Boxing Day deals, including, not but limited to:

  • The Good Guys
  • Bing Lee
  • JB Hi-Fi
  • Kogan
  • Amazon Australia
  • eBay
  • Catch
  • ALDI
  • Big W
  • Myer
  • David Jones
  • Sheridan
  • Rebel Sport
  • Vodafone
  • Optus
  • Adidas
  • Nike
  • ASOS
  • The Iconic
  • Adore Beauty
  • MAC Cosmetics
  • Sephora

Check out respective retailers’ websites and those of major department stores to see what  Boxing Day deals are advertised – it’s a good idea to  keep your eye out for early-bird offers. Boxing Day sales span a broad range of retail categories including fashion, consumer electronics, tech, beauty, toys, pets, homewares and more.

The name Boxing Day comes from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Though it originated as a holiday to give gifts to the disadvantaged, today Boxing Day is primarily known as a sales event.

Both sales offer genuinely good deals across most shopping categories but Boxing Day is your best bet for big-ticket items like TVs, appliances and consumer electronics, as retailers have one final attempt at clearing excess stock before January 1.

Meanwhile, Black Friday, which falls on the Friday after the fourth Thursday of November, tends to provide the best online deals on fashion, sports and leisure, beauty, gaming, and entertainment.

In Australia, the biggest shopping events include end of the financial year sales (EOFY) around tax time, Black Friday sales, and Boxing Day sales.

Yes, Boxing Day deals will be available online as well as in-stores. Just keep in mind that you’ll likely have to pay for shipping if you’re shopping online.
