Canstar Blue surveyed 1,049 Australians for their feedback on the laundry powder(s) they’ve purchased and used in the last three months.
The winning brand is the one that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating once all the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are combined and averaged.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included, so not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The brands rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

ALDI Trimat was rated five stars in all categories, including effectiveness, ease of use, value for money, scent, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
ALDI Trimat is the discount supermarket’s very own range of laundry detergents, which includes laundry liquids and powders. Available in multiple sizes, such as 1.5kg and 5kg packs, Trimat is also available in traditional or sensitive varieties to suit your washing needs.
ALDI Almat was rated five stars for value for money and effectiveness, with four stars for all remaining categories, including ease of use, scent, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
One of the many ALDI-branded options available in the supermarket, ALDI Almat is available in multiple scents, including ‘Spicy Temptations’, ‘Sunshine Fresh’, ‘Arctic Breeze’ and ‘Tropical Escape’, with 2L packs available to purchase. The range is claimed to use triple enzyme action to help remove stains effectively, plus different surfactants for strong cleaning power. ALDI Almat is also said to work in both hot and cold wash and to contain no phosphates.
Biozet Attack was rated five stars for effectiveness, with four stars for all remaining categories, including ease of use, value for money, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
Biozet Attack offers multiple laundry essentials, including a range of laundry powders to help get the job done. The Biozet Attack Regular powder is aimed at your everyday washes, while the PLUS Softener powder is for those looking to get that warm and fuzzy feeling from their clothes or towels. Those who need an extra hand battling the washing basket might find the PLUS Eliminator powder a handy ally, with the powder also helping to prevent damp odours in your washing machine. Biozet Attack laundry powders are available in 1kg, 2kg, 5.4kg or 6kg boxes, depending on the type.
Surf was rated four stars in the majority of categories, including effectiveness, ease of use, value for money, scent, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
Surf is another mainstay within the laundry aisle, with multiple powders available, including lavender, tropical and floral spice scents. Packs are available in 1kg, 2kg or 3kg depending on the type, with 2in1 and 5in1 varieties also available, allowing to tackle multiple stain-types, with select varieties both top and front-loader friendly.
Radiant was rated four stars for effectiveness, ease of use, value for money, scent, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
Radiant offers a variety of laundry powders to suit different types of fabrics and needs. For something stronger, its Radiant Advanced+ Ultra Power is said to use a mix of built-in pre-treaters and enzymes to lift stubborn stains (even ones that have dried in for 48 hours). And for mixed loads, the brand claims its Radiant Mixed Colours offers better colour protection than previously. It’s also said to use Colour Guard technology and an anti-dye transfer system to prevent colours from transferring onto each other. Radiant’s range is usually in 1kg, 1.8kg, 2kg or 7kg packs.
Fab was rated three stars for ease of use, with four stars for all remaining categories, including packaging convenience, scent, value for money, effectiveness and overall satisfaction.
For many, Fab would be one of the first brands to come to mind when it comes to doing the laundry, operating around the globe for decades. Owned by German company Henkel, Fab delivers a range of powders and liquids to take care of all your washing needs, with powders including its Essentials, Perfume Indulgence and Fresh ranges, with scents including Fresh Blossoms and Fresh Frangipani. Boxes are available between 1kg and 7kg depending on the type.
Rated four stars for effectiveness, OMO was rated three stars for all remaining categories, including ease of use, value for money, scent, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
OMO offers a number of laundry powders for households to choose from, including the Sensitive Powder for those who need something gentler on the skin, the Active Powder for those who need something that can tackle multiple loads, the Ultimate Powder for when you need to do some serious washing, and the Touch of Comfort for additional fragrance and softness. OMO powders are available in 1kg to 10kg packs.
Coles was rated four stars for effectiveness, value for money, scent and packaging convenience, with three stars for ease of use and overall satisfaction.
In addition to other brands, supermarket Coles also offers its own brand of laundry powder. The Coles Lemon Laundry Powder is available in a 4kg pack, and is suitable for hot and cold washes. Not surprisingly, it’s a Coles-exclusive, but one of the cheapest options available, making it ideal for those looking to do their laundry on a budget.
Rated four stars for scent and value for money, Duo was also rated three stars for effectiveness, ease of use, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction.
Duo is a popular brand of laundry powder, suitable for both front and top loading washing machines. Duo’s range includes a ‘Cleans & Whitens’ option in a fresh linen scent, a fragrance-free Cleans & Cares Powder and a Cleans & Softener option in the ‘Exotic Tiger Lily’ scent, with each available in either 1kg, 2kg or 5kg varieties.
Cold Power was rated three stars for packaging convenience, value for money, ease of use and overall satisfaction, with four stars for scent and effectiveness.
Owned by German company Henkel, Cold Power began life in the United States in the 1960s before its global expansion. In today’s Aussie supermarkets, Cold Power is available in 900g, 2kg and 4kg packages, depending on the variety you’re after. Cold Power comes in ‘Sensitive’, ‘2-in-1’, ‘Clean & Fresh’ and ‘Advanced Clean’ powders.
Coles Ultra was rated four stars for value for money, with three stars for all remaining categories, including scent, ease of use, effectiveness and overall satisfaction.
With a couple of laundry detergents available, supermarket giant Coles has a couple of options for shoppers as they cruise down the aisle. There’s the Coles Ultra Concentrate Sensitive, which is described as a dermatologically tested product that’s tough on stains and gentle on skin, in addition to the Coles Ultra Concentrate laundry powder, which contains odour controlling technology and is suitable for both top and front load washing machines. Coles Ultra laundry powders are both available in 2kg packs.
Not all brands in the market qualify for our ratings (based on minimum survey sample size), but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth considering. Here are several more brands to check out before making a purchase decision.
